at 7am this morning I got a knock at the door, and this ened up in my garage.

Yes, you are right. It's a straight 6 engine from an M3 3.2 EVO. The owner kindly did the best thing and write it off, now I can put it into my race car !

Ash mate, I think this little bunny is going to be SCARY :-)

Some stats are required I think......

With some 'tuning', it'll be churning out over 400 bhp and a similar amount to torque.
Peak revs will be 8.6K.
Oh, and the car will weigh just over 600Kgs when complete.

Engine goes in this week (yes, I know. tomorrow), body and floor are being fitted next week. With a little help from a friend or two (cheers Matt!), I'm sure we'll be on the track early next year.

Yeeeeaaaaa haaaaaaaa biglaugh

Mmmm, so lets see. I need at least 4 drivers for the Britcar 24Hr next year...... I wonder who has a cat B license, or will have next year..... Obes..... ?

Oh, and I have a sponsor for the car too, this picture is based on the road going version, but it gives one an idea.....

It does when you have to sign on at the track :-)

I bloke with a laptop sprinkles magic on it, and then it magically produces some stupid bhp bow

I've been talking to a few chaps who tune up these engine for race cars, and these are the sorts of numbers they can get out of the straight 6 engine.
The Motec ECU, has 4 maps it can hold in memory, and you can switch between the maps on the fly. One of these map will most likely be some balistic map, producing BHP like the above.

However, this car is being produced to one day run in the 'ring 24 hour race. A couple of years off yet, but hopefully it'll be strong enough to handle it.
So, overall BHP is not really the goal. Reliability and drivability is the main requirements. Something I'll be glad of at 3am in the morning :-)

It's got a season to run next year, and I'm hoping it'll be up to the job.

Simpson motorsport might be worth speaking to as they ran a CSL with a later version of that engine in the 24h also with Motec.

Lightweight cars must be ideal for that type of racing due to the comsumable use.

I've already spoken to them. They are interested in the car, and it's potential as a long distance race car.

It'll be interesting to see how it performs. I'm hoping it'll be good :-)

Yes, Matt Faulks said it was an option for more power.
Low end power is essential in a long distance race.
However I'll have to make some chassis changes to get a supercharger in there too. It's all a bit of a close fit....

Good point though, plus the added supercharger squeal thumbup

Hoping to have some track miles done by end of January, then getting ready to race April.
AS you can see, the spec has changed a bit since I spoke to you about it in July. Oh, and the budget seems to have .....grown too !

Mate, I'd love to offer you a drive, but you'd just wear all my tires out rofl

ACtually mate I do need to speak to you at the weekend, re removable stearing wheels.

After three hours of fun, I eventually managed to get it to fit.

and here....

Although the lump does fit, new mounting brackets will be required due to the cam actuators being larger that expected... Doh!

Now onto the diff and the prop shaft......
