Noble wheels - So they are split rims

I wonder what tests the e stamped wheels go through, whatever happens i'm not buying any more Noble wheels, when you have a close look at the pieces there are a lot of air bubbles in the material. looks like a fairly low quality gravity casting, not even forged let alone high pressure.
One day a wheel is going to break at speed i hope whoever is unlicky enough for this to happen will be ok.

May have been a low speed spin but the weight of the rear end hitting a solid object is going to damage something if the wheel hadn't broken it would have bent anyway plus bent suspension arms.
I might have missed it (bit pre-occupied at the time) but I don't recall the rear hitting anything. Twerly saw the whole thing maybe he'll be along later with the eye witness bit.
I think your saying that part of the design criteria with regard to energy absorption was to make the wheels weak enough that given the right set of circumstances they would become sacrificial at the moment of impact.
And this was worked out in a shed in Barwell!
This wouldn’t explain how I turned two wheels into threpenny bits by kerbing them on track.
Also there is no impact damage on the rim or tyre.
I know we’ve done this to death before but it does worry me.

Presumably the "shed" designed the look, the wheel manufacturer worked out the rest? And this was worked out in a shed in Barwell!
Or maybe Lee just went "eny miny mo" in a catalogue?

and if they're to be sacrificial (which I don't beleive for a moment - just cheap castings) then you want them to deform not shatter. Far rather recover with bent bits in your running gear than with bits (i.e. the rim and tyre) no longer attached to the car.
You should see my smugmug photos of the upright I broke. The alloy was like coco pops.

After very close in spection it appears that the wheel failed first, thus causing the crash, there is no impact damage to the rim. The metal where the spokes join the rim is powdery and popcorned. The insurance co will treat it as just another claim.
I would advise everybody to check or get there wheels checked.

Since getting further into my 30's I've noticed that more and more I sit in the car thinking "What if...[this or that broke] - I'd be dead."
Is this age do you think?
Whatever, this kind of revelation is not going to help my piece of mind.

I don't think you'd see any cracks just by looking at them. The only way to detect the apparent porosity would be by ultra-sound or X-ray detection. Ten spokes,four wheels,40 tests.Ouch!

Oh dear! That is worrying. At least the GTO3 wheels just bent rather than sheared. Adrian - is it worth passing the wheels to a metallurgist for confirmation? If it is confirmed the details need to be passed back to Noble so they are aware of the issue.
Thought about this, I get the impression Noble have been asked about chocolate wheels before. Inspecting a broken wheel wouldn't be that valid as all sorts of other criteria could be argued, the only valid tests would have to be on good wheels, and then a scientific analysis could be done using all the standard non destructive crack and floor detection techniques
I had this Issue with my Spider Wheels on my TVR Tuscan, it was brought their attention by a number of owners and the factory used a different supplier, also all owners who had problems had their wheels replaced free of charge, very rare for TVR but it is a saftey issue!!
