Went to Caxton tonight for a karting enduro fest. Had a great night and was teamed up with Washy. Only my 3 rd time karting and the last time I was rubbish. Goes to show that a few trackdays and some good tuition can make a world of difference, as Neil and I came 2nd out of 13 others with consistent cracking lap times.

It was very slippy on the condensate ground, but great fun.

I remember a very wet trackday at silverstone this year that I was most upset to be wet. I spent all day with instructors training me on wet driving skells. Thought it was a rubbish TD but tonight I realised how valuable it had been.

Thanks guys, I had a great time and look forward to doing more karting. I think its a great fun and cheap way to learn the skills and enjoy racing.

I'm serouslay thiking of doing a few www.club100.co.uk races next year.

Well Greg, if you've got the bug I'd suggest that you do a few of the winter karting endurance at Buckmore park.

It's a cracking track, and it has undulations which make it more interesting.

They have the 390cc thunderkarts which are as fast the 100cc 2 stroke karts.

The club100 events are excelent too. Nothing like driving a 100cc 2 stroke kart...... I love the smell of 2 stroke oil :-)

I think Club 100's home track it that one Jools. Looks awesome! I'm guessing the karts I was in last night were poxy compared to a 100cc 2 stroke. I thought it was pretty quick and would not fancy hitting a barrier and full pelt as one of the guys did! eek I think he'll have a sore neck this morning!!

Agree a great night, with live commentary and plenty of spins. Although I still think I was robbed of second place because of my black flag - for overtaking around the outside - what the hell; since when as that been illegal? I call it spirited driving!

Anyway, can't wait until March for the next one!

hi nobleguy,
yes it's a really good circuit with a great downhill dive into a sharp left hander, great if you get it right,.....if you don't!
wherabouts are you in mk? I live about 5m from daytona and often get the noble cleaned up there

Without a doubt one of the best tracks in the UK.

It used to be the James Hunt driving school years ago, and the layout was designed by him as I recall.
Lots of different types of corners to keep you on your toes and a mega 90 degree left hander at the bottom of the hill.

In the wet it sorts the boys from the men, but then isn't that always the case :-)

The indoor Karts are normally limited to 30mph. Even so, hitting a barrier full on is going to hurt.

However, the best karts (imho) are the 125cc 2 stroke water cooled karts.
I ran one for about 3 seasons, never missed a beat and it has a push button start. Hoorah !

Club100 do a championship series at Buckmore park, but they do events all over the UK.

If you want some company on a club100 event, let me know.

Will do Jools. Prob be starting next year.

Washy (Neil W) and DanH have both talked about doing it.

You have 3 per kart with them, so if 4 of us joined up for a season (or even 5) then our "team" could run the whole season and we would not all be tied to doing every race.

Lets talk.

Sounds like a plan :-)

I'll be racing the WLR next season, but only for about 6 rounds. Looks like I'll have a few spare w/e 's.

Are you think of the 2hr endrance series ?

Thats the one.

I'm thinking of the Rookie Class just to start with too. You can have a team of 2-5 folks, (3 being ideal I guess) and you do 40 mins practice, then quali, then a 2 hr race with driver changes and fuel stops to add to the drama.

Sounds like great fun, and your not tied to having to compete in every round.

If 3 of us did it, it would cost £104 all in per session which IMO is amazing value!!

Can't wait!

Hi Greg
glad you enjoyed the karting it is great fun
be careful you dont get the bug as you will want to buy your
own kart and thats when it gets expensive
the first few races are great fun then you think to yourself
that you could win first a race then the series and the real racer in comes
out you then checkout the opposition to see how they are wining i.e new tyres at the start
of every race its is now win at all cost
hey but what do i know i have only been doing this 13years raced
at leman, spar siliverstone to name a few oh yes and as the others say you must do Buckmore park its a great
circuit

Sorry to run on but if you want to win an 2hour endurance race 2 is the perfect number of drivers
an hour in the seat each and only one change the if they are the karts i think they are the fuel
should last an hour before refuel

i wish you well and have a great time

He's right of course, The fewest number of driver changes tends to win the day.
However, if you think you can just turn up and do an hour in the saddle staight off, then I think you'll be shocked.
It's a very physical sport, much more than car racing, and if you get it wrong it tends to hurt a fair bit (I've got the scars).
And most mistakes happen when you are tired.

I'd say a 5 man team would be a good place to start. You won't win the race, but you will get a good idea of how much effort is involved in racing a kart. And after a few session, those hard core amonst the team can try with 3, then maybe two drivers.

One this is for certain, you'll be a better driver at the end.

Clearly you are rather out of shape Greg. 10 minutes shouldn't worry a little whipper snapper like you!
