GPS Speed Camera Unit Recommendations?

Santa want's to know what I want for Christmas, so I thought a GPS speed camera warning unit to put in the Noble would be a good idea.
I have sat nav on the stereo unit [although it's basic and not that practical] and I don't want to spend a fortune.
Any experience of what works well in the Noble would be appreciated.

Hello fella - I've got a TomTom 910 which sits just above the heater vent to the right of the steering wheel. I subscribe to the camera GPS thingy which seems to work really well. You can also thread the cables down the drivers door seal, behind the steering column & into the passenger footwell to pick up the power. Looks very neat when in place. Cheers, Dave.

I use Road Angel (original version) and been very happy with it. It's backed up by TomTom running on a PDA for navigation and the speed camera DB on it seems just as good as the Road Angel one.

Hi Paul,

How is the car? Hope all is well.

Was about to put mine on e-bay when I saw this...I have a "new Road Angel" as seen here:

Barely used it (doubt I've used it more than 10 times)...kind of bought it in error as I hadn't realised that both my previous car (Evo) and the Noble have Smartnav-based camera detectors. So it is pretty much useless to me. I also bought the "optional" laser detector kit which you may want to fit...I never did.

Willing to let this go for £100 (+shipping) (cost new was around £275 with laser kit). Let me know if interested.

A little of subject but Sat Nav in a Noble? You can Hear it? I thought the stero was just to fill a hole in the dash board.

Paul,

I use the Road Angel Compact, This is the small one and it sits right in front of me infront of the hazard switch. I use this for my speed and I'm amazed at how many camera points it has even the road work. I also brought the extra lazer detector that can be un plugged in or out.

I brought this one as eventually they will ban lazer detectors so things like the std road angel that has it built in will be illegal.

No probs Paul, glad to hear you have her back. Mine is fine now...drives very well. Just 2 more things I need to do, fit a new rear diffuser (which I've bought) and 2 new wing end plates.

I do love RS4s and I think that is my next car from a practicality/comfort point of view but the Noble will be staying until mid next year or so.

Alex,

I fitted a diffuesr the other week, trust me it aint easy. I don't know if you have looked at it yet but it comes un cut. there is quite a lot of cutting to do. Once you have painted it be ready for some touch up when you try to refit it.

I will never attempt to do that again.

I find in the 3R the noise levels are quite acceptable, you can even hear the crap Sony stereo and speakers at motorway speeds. Things might be different in a 2.5?

Although I was used to an Elise, which was impossible to even have a conversation on the motorway it was so noisy.

James - you have to factor into account that the muppet operating the radio/sat nav unit [me] hasn't worked out how to turn the directional voice up louder yet. The stereo is okay but I do have to have it up LOUD TO HEAR IT PROPERLY

Stationary I have to turn it down as Its to loud.

Agreed, although I think saying the standard stereo sounds great might be a slight overstatement

And I've just noticed that my TomTom has a feature that increases/decreases volume with speed, which is handy. I've also got the speed camera database installed, but I turned the beeping on every camera off as it quickly gets really annoying on the M25 on the section with the variable speed limit.

Yes, but say sounds great coming from an elise. but my celica before that wern't much better (without base box).

That's what I mean - you have to have it loud when your on the go and then when you slow down it's too loud. I don't use it much to be honest.

You're not wrong there Bondy. I painted the diffuser and it looks stunning but then realised I have to cut bits from the sides and the centre where the tow ring inserts. I'm a bit screwed as I have nothing to lift the car up, nothing to cut the diffuser with, nor the expertise to do it. The factory quoted 3 hours labour to fit...which is now beginning to look relatively short!
