Chap who was trying to make me race him (I declined of course) last night blew up his engine.....thought about turning around to try to help him but had to get home tuck the kids in to bed.

I thought Japanese cars were reliable.

Wasn't a silver one by any chance? Couple of weeks ago I had the same thing happen, but on this occasion he didn't blow his engine up (mainly because I couldn't be arsed to race on roads - an occupation for plonkers IMO)

LOL got to stick my oar in here !! I have an evo vi tme and its been the most reliable car ive owned and serves me very well when my noble is being repaired for up to 8 weeks at a time !!
It would also run rings round any noble on these wat and slippery roads atm. (just my opinion btw)

Some friends of mine saw a Honda Integra Type R blow its engine when he flew past them on a dual carriageway.
He didn't stop straighaway either so my friend ended up spinning on the oil at a round-a-bout (i was informed he was driving pretty sedately at the time as well).
They then saw him parked up to see if he's alright and apparently he "was only cruisin' at 140"
No wonder the thing blew, and if thats cruising i'd hate to see him giving it some beans.

Hey Daddy - wouldn't dream of racing a) on the roads b) an Evo in the wet and I'm sure yours is bulletproof.

No dont get me wrong.. thats why i dont post much cos people always shoot u down. I was just sayin that in general jap cars are reliable and certainly more than my noble has been. i wouldnt condone racing on the roads either but was making a point that in those conditions an evo would be hard to keep up with in a noble.
I keep my noble cos it looks fantastic, goes and handles as well as we all know, and in the right conditions is a very satisfying car to own and drive.

The only circumstances I've ever encountered a japanese performance car "blow" its engine is when it has been badly modified or remapped incorrectly by someone who hasn't a clue or...... being driven badly by someone (e.g. slipping it into 2nd instead of 4th by accident and over-revving). Also the very high powered drag versions of Evos/Skylines etc which run ridiculous amounts of boost often finish seasons prematurely due to engine issues.

I've never seen a standard japanese performance car perform less than faultlessly including all the ones I've owned which have largely remained standard. There was a test recorded by Honda I believe a while back to try and make a standard VTEC civic type-R engine fail and they had to rev it to 24,000 rpm before it gave up! These engines are virtually indestructible under normal/standard conditions. I don't think I'd put as much confidence as that in the ford duratecs to be honest. If there is one thing japanese manufacturers do not need lessons from anyone about, that is making good engines (and gearboxes in the case of Honda).

I know they're good at making reliable cars.
I guess chappie in the drivers seat a) couldn't drive or b) couldn't modify.

It's nice to see someone who was acting like a tit being taken off the road for a week or two though isn't it
