Thats awsome. I can't believe thats 8 years before I was even born. Didn't think they even had cars in those days 
Here's a short vid taken from the side of the Mulsanne straight at night last year. After about 2.5 hours of running away from the Police and A.C.O and hiding in bushes and ditches

Even better though is hooning around Le Mans in a 6 Noble convoy, having B-B-Qs at Danny's house and getting drunk every night on a campsite with some of the best people your ever likely to meet

crikey that brings back memories of me doing exactly the same thing in 1997 - the police over there blow whistles and expect you to stop LOL
we managed to get right next to the track on the mulsanne straight- they were coming past at 240 plus !! the noise was incredible, i had my fingers in my ears as hard as i could and the noise just shook your body to bits

My abiding memory of LM, as well. When you think about it, the LMP1 cars are only going a few mph less (OK, 50) than Hamster when he had his big off - but these guys are doing this stretch every 8 mins for hours at a time, in the dark, and it's on a bit of French B-road, FFS!! Deep respect.

Precisely why police/marshalls try to keep people away from that stretch of the circuit (and fortunately don't really succeed!). If you've seen any of the footage of cars in 70s/80s taking-off as air gets under the car it is truely a frightening sight.
