How effective is the rear spoiler

Guys I have an M12
As the title says, how effective is the back spoiler ?
If it does make a difference to cornering or rear end stability at speeds, what are the effective settings ?

I was a passenger in a Noble on the way back from Leman last year,we were doing over 160 behind a 911 GT3 (till he moved over),we didnt take off!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think its fair to say the rear spolier is not there for show

some of the guys on here have taken them off and have not reported any problems

I had mine flat out @ 170 without and can't say it felt much different.

I think goodlife said that when he took his off at a VMAX, it gave him 2-3mph top speed, but was a bit more unstable under braking over 120mph. I'd leave it on as it probably does a bit of good. As my car hits the limiter in 6th anyway, I can't say I've considered doing it

We know at the standard height the parts outside of the pillars do work. Annecdote says the car is less steady under braking without the wing (probably the frontal weight shift accentuates the loss in downforce). Mine is raised 3 inches and I know that at that height the whole span is active but I have no idea how much extra force it generates, I've never had problems with real wheel lockups etc.
The guys in america suggest that it works better if its parrallel to the upper face of the rear clam so there's a smoother funneling effect - but those cars are packing 550+ bhp so they probably worry less about the drag this induces.

Drive it on a salted road in the wet, let it dry, and you'll see the 'trails' on the outside 10" or so. This, as Paul says, shows that it's acting as a wing.

Many years ago I used one of our PhD staff members aero wing simulators to model the approximate shape of the wing taking a few rough and ready measurements and it certainly generates negative lift.

I was at the VMAX referred to by Paul and Danny was very sure it was slighly 'light' under breaking without the wing on.

Unless you feel the need looks wise, it's probably best to leave it on.

Or during summer months count the squashed flies on it; you'll find plenty on the areas 10" in from the end plates but none elsewhere.

Question is, if you raise the wing higher and do get more downforce to you get stress cracks on the clam?

alloy tube with CF rod insert. Original bolt bonded into top of tube. threaded hole with M4 clamping bolt front and back.
