I have the upgraded pump and it spins and makes all the right noises, but when driving, the engine coughs and dies. It feels like I'm running out of fuel. The pump at this time is making horrid crisp packet noises. It sounds like it is full of air.
I understand that the pump is best verticle to avoid cavitation. Anyone else experienced similar problems ? Any ideas where I can mount the pump vertically ?
Now for the stupid question !! Which way up is the right way vertically ?

Cheers

I have made some small adjustments and added a bit of sound proofing in the wing and now the pump is running quiet enough to stand.
However, If i go for a drive, I only get 2 or 3 miles before it seems to run out of fuel. It has lots in the tank and now the pump is making a right racket. After a little while trying to re-start, the car will run, but not very happy.
It seems that I have fuel starvation. Has anybody else suffered this ? Are the filters suspect ? What's the most obvious cause ?
Whats the best way to check the filter or should I just buy a new one ?
Is there anything else that could stop fuel free flow to the pump ?

Cheers in advance.

By the way, the 2 miles before it conked out were great.

Never ever heard about that. Sounds very sick. Please be careful because fuel starvation can literally melt the top end (as I well know from experience).

Get it checked out ASAP - can you get it to Roush, Plans or similar?

Check your filter.

It does not matter which way "up" it is as long as its more vertical than horizontal. In theory the proper way is to have the electical connectors and the motor / pump at the top so that if the fuel leaks its less likely to explode.

Long shot, but maybe worth thinking about - if your catalytic converters have 'collapsed' internally it will severely reduce exhaust gas flow and the whole exhaust system gets very hot which in turn alters gas mix to the point where Mr Lambda Sensor tells ECU to shut everything down. Thats why it's fine when the car is cold, but stops when it's hot.
Fanciful? No - it happened to me with my old 3R when it had only 4K on the clock. Took the factory nearly a month to diagnose and sort it out; first going down the route of replacing the complete fuelling system including injectors. Replaced the cats (and of course the exhaust box as that was also broken) and problem solved.
