Noble made a surprise change of direction recently when it sold the production rights for it's M12/M400 range to 1g racing, it’s former agents in the States. The cars will continue to be produced in the States, although they won't be called Nobles. back in the UK, Noble will continue to offer spares and service for existing M12/M400 owners from it's base at Barwell Leicestershire.
The money from the sale is already being reinvested into the development of new models.
The final production version of the M15 will appear later this year, Noble says it has 140 orders for the 185mph 911-rivalling mid-engined junior supercar.
There is also a completely new car under development that could take Noble into another performance division. The normally straight talking Lee Noble refused to be drawn into details of this new project, but he is obviously very excited by it. He told us that this is the car he’s been wanting to produce for some years now. ‘We sold around a thousand M12’s in the UK over seven years and in that time the car had gone through four generations, so I’d effectively got to the end of the road with it and flooded the market. When the Americans showed an interest in buying the rights we quickly struck a deal and now have the funds to work on something very special. I’m loathed to give out too many details at this stage because I want people to be blown away when it arrives. It will be a substantial leap for us and will not be the car everyone is expecting. We’re no longer confined by normal rules and it will take Noble to the next level, while building onto the brand and driver focused aspect we have become synonymous for’.
He said sales of the new super-Noble would be in the 50-60-per-year bracket (which we reckon means a likely price of between £80k and £100k) and that it would be powered by an engine with ‘more than six’ cylinders. Our guess is that it will have a V8 and over 500bhp.
But then again - don't believe everything you read in the press!
