There's a car on ebay : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2003-03-Noble-M

which says it's a 3. But my 3 has twin air filters in the intercooler box. So, I'm confused. Are there different filter locations on a 3l engine or is the car on ebay a 2.5 ?

It looks like a 3.0 that's had the air filter/intakes moved to the front.

You could choose when built which position I believe, and others have had theirs moved. I think the intercooler box position was standard on 3R's onwards. Dunno about 3's.

Ah, I see. Mine's a 3 but with a 6 speed & LSD. Maybe that explains it then.

Mine's a 3 and the filters were moved from the front to the rear air box.

And is there a reason for moving them ?

the main reason for moving them is noise. Wastegate noise is much increased in the cabin with the filters forward.
Technically speaking, I suppose you should try and keep the intake lenths as short as possible so Front turbo inside the NS butress and rear turbo in the IC box.

On all up to 3R's they were mounted on the bulkhead and sounded like having Darth Vada in the boot!

3R's (r standing for refined yikes ) moved them to the IC box.

I tested a 3 then bought a 3R and half way home I wondered where those cool Vada noises had gone, so I turned around and got them moved to the bulkhead. I love it!!

The change to the intercooler box position was actually mid run on the 3's mine has them in the original place, where as Broads 3 (which is 4 months younger had) them in the IC box

I've seen the Top Gear review where Jezza comments about the noise coming from the boot. I've wondered about what he was on about as mine doe snot make that much noise, so this would explain it then.
