I know this has probably been done before (cant find the thread), but why is the Noble placed so far down( M400 aside) Please somebody tell me this is a mistake as my mate who has diesel BWM is having a bit of a laugh( slightly understated)

Interesting, i thought they never did a time for the M400 and when they ran it against the GT40 the Stig screwed it up. the time on the board was for a GT03, looks like the have updated the board and published rubbish (strange)

Tell him mine (lightly modified 2.5 with 326 hp on road tyres) did a 1:27 with a very unstig driver at the wheel.

As far as I remember it, the GTO (2.5) was done in the wet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L16BwBkCuJw; I think is the actual laptime.

The 1.25 was a gto3 or r variant. This was a dealer demo car that Micknall just picked up and took, no prep work at all so could have been in any kind of state.

The M400 laptime was 1:22.2 set in series 5 Episode 8, 12/19/2004 (in Ford GT40 vs Noble M400 (gotopex and Micknall reported it), with a screwed up last corner as Stig didn't get much practice time according to Micknall.

Even if that was done with a GTO3, and even if it was in the wet,and even if the stig got it wrong here and there--- wouldn't it still be higher up the board? Or should I just take of my rosie specs.

Some of the other results are abit off as well, look at where the 911 Turbo is!

Perhaps they should have had you to the lap. It would have shut my diesel bothering mate up.

He's got a 530d. I've told him he can pick any stretch of road he likes and I'll put the Noble into 5th as soon as I can. I wont change gear at all, and I'll still beat him

Are you saying then that all of the Noble results are rubbish?
And they have qouted the 3R time as the 400's and not actually posted the 400's real time

Nick,
There has never been an offical M400 time posted, the two on board are definately not for the M400. The time that I quoted for an M400 is from the episode mentioned where they race it against the old GT40, but the stig time was never made offical. Simon H the Noble press officer (Micknall) posted on here what the time was - actually just found the thread and is was actually 1:22.1. I believe the 1:25 is correct for a GTO3, but can't find a vid to prove it without downloading a whole episode.
Rob.

If it helps, the M400 is third quickest car on the Fifth Gear lap board

http://fifthgear.five.tv/jsp/5gmain.jsp?lnk=401&am...

only being beaten around Anglesey by the Westfield XTR4 and Mosler MT900S (and a couple of quick bikes)

Get Chillidog to have a go in his M400 I'm sure Graham H could organize it. I reckon he could get under 1.20 in that beast once familiar with the track layout.

Correct - 1:25 is the GTO(3?) - not sure if they ever did the 2.5.
1:22.1 was with the penultimate corner messed up too - he would've probably equalled the GT40 had it not been for that, which is pretty impressive really.

Even at 1:25 it puts the Noble within the top 20 cars ever tested there. I would say the top 10 on the list are pretty untouchable unless you can spend a good 6-figure sum. Still no Veyron tho - is it maybe rubbish around the corners?

1.25 is not very impressive in a 3.0L Noble. I would put money on being able to beat that myself.

Having seen Gavin Kirby do a 1.25 in a bog standard Mk2 Exige I'm sure if Paul gave it another go in his 2.5L he'd get round in 1.23 or less and a standard M400 should get close to 1.21

On the PH Driving challenge, Richard (Chillidog) apparently took his M400 round in 1:23.7 on Fri 25th May.

Thanks but I doubt I'd get much better. Gavin is a nifty pedaler and shaving 4 seconds of my previous time would require major changes like slicks etc.

Paul,

You're a solid 5 secs a lap quicker than Kirby's car around Oulton (1.55 v 2.00 mins - which I appreciate is a longer lap) so I'd have thought you could go a good 3 secs quicker round Dunsfold? and Richards car is generally around 8 secs a lap quicker ! Is it a very tight & twisty layout or something?
Was the 1.27 recent or a while back?

I can see I'm going to have to have a go myself smile

Interestingly, that's with Vicki driving compared with Tiff in the Mosler.

yes Indeed, and when you consider that Tiff in the Elise 111R was a fair bit quicker than VBH in the Exige 240R...

Yes, and Tiff is a full 1.55 seconds quicker than VBH in 997 Carrera S ! scratchchin

Hmmmm... VBH M400 time of 49.54 - 1.55 = 47.99 which is 0.01 quicker than VBH in the XTR4, and also 0.83 quicker than Tiff in the Mosler. Obviously its making a few assumptions, and times are always dependent on things like track temperature, but it gives some idea anyway.

Also another quick mathematical comparison which may or may not be valid in the real world (especially as the tracks are different):

The M400 beat the Evo FQ400 by 4.7857% of its total time around Anglesey in a comparison test (VBH driving).

Taking the same % off the Evo FQ400 TopGear time gives 1:20.74, very similar time to the Ascari.

Does that sound like a reasonable time to expect from a pro driver, or if its a bit quicker does the TopGear track tend to favour the Evo more than Anglesey?
