I have just disclosed my change of wheels to my insurance company (Tesco) and it went up. My next step on the mods front is the exhaust. So how much extra on the insurance is an exhaust?

Also, when going through the questions they ask how much extra BHP it gives. How much have people been saying?

Cheers

be a jerk and tell a lie. Insurers will do anything to get out of paying up and I'd bet they now know how much the upgraded exhausts and engine mods produce in added BHP. We all moan about insurance costs but they are high because so many try to cheat. The only option is to be honest. How do you know they aren't lurking on this thread and have already noted your asking "how much shall I reveal?"

Regards
Paul C

Paul I think you may have read my thread wrongly. I don't want to lie (I have always told them what I have, thus the wheels putting the qoute up!!). There is absolutely no way I would run the risk of not being covered when it comes to claim time.

All I wanted to know is how much people have had to pay and what bhp gain did they get?

The reason I ask is that as we both know the Noble doesn't always meet it's qouted bhp figure so how can you say it added a said amount when it was way under in the first place? Especially if it wasn't rolling roaded thus not knowing the figure.

Any help would be appriciated.

Dear James,
Sorry, didn't mean to impune, afraid its a bit of a thing under my collar this subject.
Happy to stand corrected. You are right, based on actual dyno figures many Noble owners ough to get refunds on thier insurance as their cars are not as powerfull as the brochure says but then I suspect thats true for most of the market.

No probs Paul and I am with you on the insurance front. Especially as I have been a victim of an uninsured driver. I don't think I can type what I think of them furious The powers the uniformed boys and girls have to seize their vehicles is great. Purhaps the Government should spend money on them instead of static cameras which only catch insured drivers etc. Sorry that's another story.

I suppose the only real way would be to get a before and after dyno plot.

So the question still stands. How much extra is say, 20-30 bhp? If that's what the exhuast gives?

Tesco wouldn't insure my wheels!! cry
In the end I went to A1 who said all would be well with various mods (zorst, suspension etc,)then when it came to the crunch they had to re-insure me with another company because the wheels were too expensive!! Cue massive claim excess I thought.rolleyes
So now I'm on my third insurance company who have insured the wheels but as part of the whole value of the car?? confused
So if the car is nicked they will pay the value of the wheels (fixed) plus the market value of the car at the time. biggrin
If the wheels are nicked alone they will still pay but their computer couldn't take the strain which is why all the above occurred. I think the underwriters had a bit of a blue fit and thought they would penalise me big time, however the quote I ended up with was cheaper than Tesco and A1's first choice!!!
Go figure.thumbup

I think it all depends on the insurance company. I can give an example on my last couple of Esprits :

a) I had my GT3 insured with priviledge. I added about 40bhp with a chip upgrade and they wanted about £175 extra on a £575 policy, which I paid. I asked them about fitting a rear wing and they wanted another £175 !! This is for adding something that was a factory fitted option !!!!

b) I added a dump valve, straight pipes, sports cats, K&N filters to my Sport 350 and the company, ClassicLine ( who now insure my Nob ) just noted it down and said, "That's fine, nothing extra to pay".

My point is that often main stream insurance companies who are cheap to start with will screw you on anything you do ( and it's already a group 20 car that's goes like hell, so what difference does even 50 more ponies really make to their risk ? Nothing, I would say ), whereas the specialist companies understand their risk is not increased. I use Classicline and no doubt pay more because when I ring them up I get excellant service, speak to someone who can understand what I am saying and deals with me by me giving my name, not some reference number. I'm not saying don't use the likes of Tesco's but in the end you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the replie fellas.

I will properly get a qoute before doing it and then ring around. My wheels put the quote up by £200 but the BOV was just listed. Funny thing is the wheels are probably cheaper than standard items.

Thanks again

I've been pleased with MSM, told them about new intercooler (please turn up this week before Donnington), and a couple of bits and pieces and no increase in premium. I think I am probably paying more than some of you, but to be honest they were the cheapest by miles for me when I renewed.

Dont think tesco like engine mods, they never used to. Alot of companys used to allow a 10% increase for x amount of extra weighting. Anything over 10% was normally too much.
