Hi Everyone,

Wow what a great forum,

Need help on this one always wanted a TVR or a Noble and ever scince i was a nipper now 30 and saved and can afford one...

Never driven one but and in cornwall very few here to look at and dealer is in exeter 2 hr drive, and not got any in stock ??????

I have £25000 to spend on a car, i was lookign at a 3R OR Tuscan s, 53 reg blue, white and proland leather interior 7000 miles and serviced 3 times and 1 owner, 26000£

I then seen a t350 up close and wow what a car as well but just not as quick as the tuscan s and i think the t350 will lose money faster than the tuscan s ????

I am very scared now after reading this website after so many people having problems with the engine, spd6 okay i know that you need to look after them but dont really want to be paying out more money for a engine rebuild after 10000 miles so this scares me...

So then i came across the cerbera 4.5 v8 lightweight, 02 plate 7000 miles 1 owner mint condition 2+2 26k and as quick as the tuscan s

im so confused do want to waste miles drivign all around the country after cars but maybe this will be the case, also dont want to buy a car for 25k and then 12mths later it worth 15k but 20k is fine

also boom shell is the mrs is now preg and due in 8mths so 2+2 seams sensable altho she is getting a x5 for the nipper and her, tho family days out?

OMG so hard to make my mind up please guys help.

the car will be used 4 days a week to go to work and of course at week ends, work is 10 mile saway but ill alway take th elong way 15miles LOL and also love to drive for miles at teh week end.

Is the speed six engine really that bad? and should i play it safe with my money and go v8? or are they just as bad,

Are noble reliable and a good 3 daily driver,?

OMG HELP

Yes the six speed engine is that bad IMHO. Noble on a 25k budget doable for a 2.5l Noble (well sorted one at that price i think)
Do some searching on problems and check it out for yourself. I had the same dilema as you 350 or Noble. Noble is defferent breed to tivver and should have been more reliable (but my engine went after 3k)

You're not get anywhere near a 3R for 25k, or a nice 3 for that matter. A mate is former TVR man and his horror stories put me of them years ago.
I've driven several TVR's and find is a matter of personal choice, I went for a Noble but try either one and choose your favourite. Go onto the TVR forum to get more info on them.
You are realistically going to get a well sorted 2.5 for your money, well spent in my opinion biggrindriving

As a 4 time TVR owner, and now a 2 time Noble owner I will never go back.If you go the TVR route do not buy a Speed 6 car without a rebuilt engine to at least 2005 spec., and even then it can still be a lottery. Nobles ( generally speaking) are a different league, the only TVR thing I miss is the noise.

I'm sure that everyone has their own opinion with respect to ownership and you are hardly likely to find someone on the Noble forum talking sense about the Speed 6 engine.........except me obviously. I haven't had a single problem with 3 years of Tuscan ownership and would never swap mind for a Noble.

Not because I like TVRs better or because one's faster than the other, or because one has a bigger willy than the other but because I like my car and it does what I ask it to. It's noisy, has a fantastic touque range, looks fantastic, handles more than adaquately and I to get a full set of golf clubs and a motorised trolly in the boot. It's got comfy seats and I can take the roof off. It may not handle as well as a Noble and it may be marganally slower off the line or have a marginally faster top speed than a Noble but the Tuscan and the Noble were designed to do completely different things and they are both better at those things than the other. You decide what you want to do with your car then pick a car to do the job. If you fall in love a the same time then all well and good.

I'm going over to theh Tuscan forum now to see if you have posted the same question over there !

tvr's are awesome cept for the shite speed 6 engine design and the breakdowns every 500 miles.

Nobles outshines it in every category except for noise really.

want some more tar for that brush? hehe

Noble for me please, though I'd happily suffer a cerb or a tuscan if there weren't so many other cars on my hitlist for 2008/09.

I know people that have had no issues with their speed six engine (ala Ian above).

However, I have had one go on me personally, so it does happen. That time it was the big end that let go rather than the finger followers so it's not all that sorted.

That said, the odd Noble engine does give out as well. It's a blown, 130 bhp/l+ engine that is relativly stressed, and did have some issues in the early days. Having said that, it is very very rare to hear of serious issues on any Noble nowdays (not impossible, just rare).

You'll struggle to find anything for 25k execpt a 2.5l car.

My final question to you is can you afford an engine going and the resultant 3-5k bill? If you can't, I would recommend that you don't buy either car, as it would be terrible for you to stretch yourself to the limit only to have an issue that meant the car sat broken for months and months.

When I was searching for my Noble M400 I looked at a couple of TVR's nice interior etc, but every technician I spoke to told me to steer clear of the speed six, one guy showed me one on their ramp with the sump off to reveal a snapped crankshaft!
Put me right off.
A well sorted 2.5 would be my choice on your budget.
Better still do the man maths and come up with the extra £££'s for a 3R or M400 (tell the Mrs It’ll save you having to do the inevitable upgrade when you have been bitten by the Noble bug).
Good luck.

I've done a fair few miles in the passenger seat of this car and it's a very nice place to be.

Ian, you forgot to add that your Tuscan is Numero Uno in the Tuscan paint colour stakes...(as is my Noble biggrin)

I think Joust is spot on and I couldn't agree more (now there's a first!) very sound advice.

Or get a warranty from Kerridges apparently smile At least the 5k engine worry may be covered if nothing else. I bought mine hoping to get a warranty, but never found anything worth buying. Then the inevitable happened, big end went. I stretched myself over my limit/budget and got bit again to the tune of 6k IIRC. Not nice but pretty unusual i think

It's obviously about style Martin. Some of us have it and some of them don't (I'm sure we can find a couple of pictures of the wedding laugh)

When I bought my first Noble I was going through precisely the same dilemma as yourself. I drove Noble/TVR back to back and at that point the decision was made for me about which I'd rather have, they are very different driving machines.

I'd second, or third, or however many people have agreed with Joust so far, don't budget for either car on a best case scenario basis, either make at 25k is likely to be far enough from it's warranty to have the potential for big bills.

That said, if you can afford it do it, that's always been my car buying philosophy, which may explain why I have no money and lots of loans!

...Noble - every time for me (though I loved my Cerbera) - there are lots of threads on here.

I have a friend in Falmouth who has a Noble - PM me and I'll ask him if he'll show you around the car.
