so finally got to fly over to the UK yesturday and got to pick my 3r up at last. did the long drive back to germany today. (just got in in fact).

whilst bored on the motorways of europe i got to noticing a few things wrong and seeing as for some reason the search function dont work at the moment i thought i would pop a thread up.

1) noticed a whine/humming sound from behind passenger seat, from outside it seems its coming from directly behind the passenger side rear air inlet grill. i opened up the clam and noticed thats exactly where the tank sits, so could it be fuel pump whining away? i read something about pumps on here a while ago but cant remember what. is it likely to be pump? should i be concerned? what should i do, if anything?

2) trivial i know but stearing wheel is about 20 degrees askew, can i just remove it a refit one tooth on a spline further round or is it more tricky than that? is the center pad held on with clips or withthe two screws seen behnd the wheel?

3) backlight for speedo dont work, guess its straight forward enough?

4) lights mist up, i know about popping in a sachet of silica gel, question is does it go in the back so you cant see it or does it have to sit in the front on full view?

on the whole good drive back, long way in such a car, not really a autobahn cruiser but it was steady enough. to be honest wasnt too sure about the car at first, i found the driving position really odd with my feet off to the left, put as i got used to it and started playing with a few roundabouts etc, the smiles started to come. pretty sure i grow to like lol.

any tips on above would be great guys, cheers

1) As thats my old motor I can confirm that the upgraded fuel pump is noticably noisier than the stock one -- its from Rousch so I'm sure Yellowshed (Trevor) can advise or someone here can advise if theres a solution/workaround.

Cheers Mark

I would strongly recommend adjusting the front toe as a way of straightening out the steering wheel angle. This is best done on a 4-wheel alignment machine (so that the rear toe can be set at the same time). The car is very sensitive to toe settings, so those should be corrected (or confirmed, if already correct) before changing the position of the steering wheel on the splines.

Enjoy the roundabouts - I have noticed that the 3R is only just a 'tourer'. Its not too tiring, but comes into its own when off the boring roads

thinks thats a good idea, i know a place near me with 4 wheel alignment, i will look for the toe settings if the search function is working again, if not working any comments on front and rear toe in?

4. silica gel goes in to the "pod" cover at the rear of the light so you can't see it.
If you have a lot of mist it is a good idea to open the pod for a while on a hot day and let the moisture evaporate before putting the gel pack in.

I took the back of my misty one and about a pint of water came out! I couldn't believe just how much water there was inside!

I took all the lights out alltogether and gave the front visible part a good clean.

thanks guys, i have to open the lights up to do a conversion to left hand drive. i spoke to tony at the factory who reckons i should be able to just rotate the two projector lamps to make the 15 degree upstand move to the other side of the pattern if you see what i mean.

if not i not the lamps are hella and hella are german so i am sure a LHD version if the light is available here.

great news on the gel, i didnt really want it sitting in the front of the light assembly. all i need to do now is find some, off to look for a silica gel shop lol.

what did you mean by 4.? am i being dim again lol

ah that would explain why i only noticed it forst after the car was nicely warm after a motorway blatt, in fact i forst noticed it after sat in the queue at the tuneel for nearly an hour on idle as things got wquite warm then and obviously never had chance (30 min crossing) to cool down.

Hello Sean,
Sorry to hear about your faults, how does it compare to the GTR?

the faults arent reall that much of an issue, more niggly little things to be honest, seems the fuel pump is normal which was th ebiggest concern.

a blown bulb, tracking needing doing etc are pretty minor issues which are easy to sort.

yeah compared to the GTR, well the trip back from the UK showed me it aint no touring car lol, it turns more heads than the skyline though lol.

obviously its much more nimble than the GTR. i think i will need to learn the car a bit over the next few weeks but i reckon for performance around windy county roads the noble will win hands down, the skyline would be better for autobahn trips but i dont do too many of them and when i do i can use the company car.
