track day noise limits?

Hi,

Having taken the yellow beast to Goodwood recently and only just scraped the 98dB noise limit I was wondering how other people coped with this? especially those with, ahem, 'tweaked' beasts..?

being that close (measured at 97dB) surely means a bird chirruping or the engine of another car could easily put me over and thats a fair few quid wasted (not to mention the let-down of losing a track day!)

I've heard of exhaust bungs, but that sounds just silly, especially as nobles sound so good!

Exhaust bungs just remind me of those bits you stick in the end of a trumpet to make it sound different. Can't look good....

It seems crazy a racing track doesn't allow loud cars.
Not like the residents didn't know Donington et al were nearby when they bought their house, surely?

Shane, Goodwood is my favourite track. The last time I took the Noble there it just passed the noise test (stock exhaust). You may know that Goodwood is an especailly tight noise circuit due the the local residents and titled owner. There are two types of trackday - it depends of the total number of cars out. Noise monitors around the circuit measure the accrued noise of all cars and any excess can stop the event until the noise clears (believe it or not it can take up to 20 mins to return to normal!). Anything other than a stock Noble exhaust will fail Goodwood.

Hehe yeah the alarms are linked to the local authority, think there's a mandatory 15 minute track closure

Drives me nuts - ditto to Donington comment above; why move near if you don't like noise. And frankly the AIRFIELD inside the circuit is a helluva lot louder!

Guess I just gotta risk it...

It is a good circuit, but I keep thinking I just go back because its close- feel the need for somewhere with more corners...

Actually in all serious where's good to get a bung from (can I add/remove one at will for noisy days?)

Must be someone who could make some "jap style tuner" bungs for exhausts. They might even accidentally fall out halfway into the day, hehe.

Then that would be your last lap. The noise meters are real time. You can start a lap, and by the time you get to the start finish again the black flags are out

Pembrey is in the middle of nowhere so has a limit of 105db..

If anyone has a noise meter and are going to the CarLimits day on Friday, it'll be good to test the various setups for reference.

1) Do the standard cars
2) Do the Roush cars
3) Do Adrians car (leaving it only half working)
4) Do the GT (then throw it in the bin, totally melted)

Get an M3 CSL then. When Washy bowled up for the noise test at Brands last Thursday, the guy told him to turn his engine on

This all seems a bit weird to me that the trackdays are kind of designed for people who want to thrash it around for a bit in the relative safety of a racing cicuit, but then regulations take over so that it would be easier to just use the roads instead. I know finding the limit on the road is a stupid thing to do, and is not really my cup of tea anyway, but surely this kind of thing is just going to put people off and make them head for the neares B-road.

Or am I just being naive and slightly grumpy?
