I've got an intermittent metallic rattle coming from somewhere in the engine bay.

I suspect it could be that heat sheild thingy that vibrates off something... I haven't have time to look yet but dont know where it is anyway. Could someone enlighten me please?

usual culprit is heat-shield over front turbo; lift clam and look down in front of the engine (ie look down by the rear window) and you'll see a piece of ali plating over the turbo. Make sure this is secure and/or there are no other bits in close proximity (because it will melt them if they are!). If it's not this it may be your exhaust bracket gone (if you have a standard exhaust)

Yeah, my exhaust used to rattle like hell, which was strange as when I removed it I found the box was almost completely empty. I could see right through the from the inlet to outlet :consufed:.

My bracket also broke which caused more of a squeaky sound than a rattle.

Yeah, shouldn't be too pricey either.
If it's the baffles then smash

Who needs baffles anyway?

I had a rattle and it was the metal wall that forms the barrier between the wheel and the engine. It had a slight kink in it and I just pushed the end of it that wedges on the floor.

All the above.

Heat shield. A scredriver, 10mm spanner and alan key set can sort that out, but it's a pain.

Baffles. Welder.

Bracket. Welder, but then check all mountings right back to the turbo as even a week-or-so with the bracket broken can cause problems all the way back.
