A Radical Experience
Discussion
Ian,
I made the jump from M400 (as a road and track combined car) to SR3 1500 and 355 a while back. The 355 was always an interim car until the M15/M600 turned up (note to new Noble management - if the rumour of Lee going is true, can you please return my deposit, simply wouldn't be the same car/experience).
Back to the SR3, I use it only for trackdays, though the potential to race it is always there if I ever get the time/money. Must say that nothing I've driven before comes close on track, its simply stunning. There is the problem of always catching other cars, but I tend to go on only Bookatrack/Easytrack open-pit days where there appears to be less pressure on drivers to eek out the last minute of full-on track time and I can normally get passed quite easily!!! It has taken a bit of time to master the slicks/downforce jump, and you get a lot less sideways action than I could in the M400. Overall though, I've never regretted making the switch when I'm at a track.
There is the whole trailer debate to think about - I've reached the opinion that the pros (no destroying the road car, no need to worry about driving it home, easier to set-up before actual day) outweigh the cons (the fun on the drive to the track is non-existent, the pre-flight checks are a real pain). Mine is road legal, which does mean that I get a little more attention on than I did in the M400 - possibly something to do with the straight through pipes that I sometimes forget to change after a track day, particularly from BIB!!!
I've not quite sorted myself for trackdays yet this year, but I expect the first one will be Silverstone in mid May with Bookatrack. More than happy to take you out in it, and talk a bit more about the reality of owning such an extreme car.
Cheers,
Scott.
