Vibration

I am getting a very strong vibration through the car when accelerating or cornering hard. The car gets a high freq shudder all through it.

Any one any ideas?

does it happen when you brake ?

is it only when cornering in one direction ?

is it the front or the rear ?

if its the rear a rolling road may help you find the problem

it could be your diff bearings - which gearbox do you have ?

All,

I still have this problem. I checked the nuts and they appeared to be tight, I didn't torque them, just checked they weren't loose, if you know what I mean. How loose do they need to be to cause a problem, finger tight?

Driving it toiday I now understand the problem more. The vibration is a low frequency shudder through the whole car. It happens when accerating hard and cornering hard on a left hand corner. Right hand turns are OK. It appears to happen mostly when the drivers side suspension is loaded.

Any ideas appreciated.

Check upper ball joint assembly. There is a metal block associated with this (not immediately visible to the eye) which have been known to crack . Mine for example. I'll post a pic when I get hold of the offending item.

Rob do you mean the metal block in the front suspension, or is there a similar block in the back. I am fairly confident my issue is at the rear.

When I had the diff done I had a very minor vibration when turning right. The engine mounts apparently hadn't been put back on correctly . Some others have reported bad vibrations due to theirs wearing out and breaking.

dont know if this helps .when i first bought mine on the drive home it also had a vibration from the back worse when cornering through left hand bends.when i got home i had a good check over and noticed my brake fluid level non existant.the vibration was from a brake line catching on the wheel as they are only held on with plastic tie wraps.i have since made some metal clips so they cannot move.then recently it developed another vibration from the rear it turned out to be worn wheel bearings.the way to find out if yours are worn is lift the rear spin the wheel with one hand and hold the spring with the other.if it is worn you will feel the vibration through the shocker.replaced both sides and put the porsche lock nuts on and all is well

No - part of the rear assembly. (Part No (for mine) M400-G-001-1). My front blocks had to be replaced as well awhile ago. Both cracked.

I have just checked the drivers side rear suspension. Every looks fine apart from there is some movement if you grasp the wheel and move at 12 oclock / 6 o'clock. No movement when grasped at the 9 o'clock / 3 o'clock positions. I guess that is the balljoint, not bearing. How do I prove it.

I also sense a little bit of movement if I try and wobble the drivshaft, I think that might be OK though.

Assuming it is the balljoint, will it cause the shuddering I describe.

just worked out the wear is in the shock absorber end spherical berarings. Could this cause the shudder?

As promised -there are 3 major cracks in this one running right through the block. Other one was pretty similar.



Not sure of the consequences of one of these 'going' - it might not be as dramatic as what happened to AdrianW when his front one went (front suspension collapsed about a mile after coming off the M25 in rush hour), but probably worth checking if there are any suspicions. Can't say I noticed anything with these cracks in, but they were picked up by Skip from NobleLondon when doing a thorough check of suspension components for me (thanks,Skip).
