In need of more power from my 2.5 gto
Discussion
Can anyone give me any advise on the best mods to go for but still running on the safe side, I'm used to a 400 bhp escort cossie, witch kicks you in the ass, the handling is great it just need that extra little bit? or has anybody got any mods (parts for sale) thanks for your help, ow and could you tell me the kind of bhp I'm looking at getting
thanks for your advise

Intercooler and Roush exhaust in that order. Once the exhaust is fitted, you'll need a re-map. Yellowshed can do this for you on a Rolling Road.
You should also upgrade the Fuel Pump and wiring loom when fitting the exhaust.
ETA, the 2.5 had the open diff which doesn't handle all the horses that the above will give you so well so you might want to start saving up for a LSD at the same time!!

what about upping the boost a little with the re mapp, is the lsd easy to get, iv been told geting the gearbox out is nightmare job? tho I'm a tec and have access to a ramp?
The factory upgrade for the 2.5 was a ebc and boost increase/remap.Lsd is standard quaiffe, gearbox - is engine out, or cutting crossmember and refitting.
How about just putting a 3litre in instead?

im guessin you have a 3 liter? im stuck with the 2.5 for now, so that why im tring to find that bit extra?
Was lucky. Picked up a complete M400 transaxle, turbos, manifolds, loom, ECU etc... 2600 miles.Have added some valve springs, injectors, fuel pump etc.. Ready for turning up the boost at a later date. Swapping this Autumn.

I had a after market ecu fitted and am currently running 340bhp on 0.8 boost. will be upping the boost to 1bar soon (although this is a boost trim adjustable from wastegate to 1bar and i'll run it at 0.9).
I had the LSD fitted a while ago as mine broke.
If i was to take the box out again it will be from removing the chassis bar.
Would get more if a propper exhaust was fitted.

I got mine modded with a remap, cam timing change and larger intercooler.thanks for your advise
Currently running at 410bhp.
The company that did mine seemed to think that if you add the slightly larger turbos and a decent exhaust it would run at around 500bhp, although it's possible you'd need an upgraded gearbox/clutch with that, or expect the existing one to go bang at some point. Mine's a 3 litre so not sure how that might apply to a 2.5.

was it hard to remove engine and loom ?
Terry, the reference to the loom is just to replace the wiring to the fuel pump... very simple job. With regards to engine out, there's now a process to cut a cross member out to facilitate the removal of gearbox and diff without removing the engine. The part is then welded or bolted back in after the jobs complete. Not sure it would save much time the first time it's done but if bolted in, would save time in the future.
Don't know anyone that's used this method. Anyone like to comment?

Yes. Bolt-on section now in place.Hasn't changed the dynamics of the car at all as far as I can tell.
