Sounds completely different!

Went out in a friends 3r on saturday and was surprised to hear, or should I say ' not hear' much sound from his turbos. Does anyone have a brief explanation as to why my 2.5 sounds makes so much din & the 3r doesn't? No complaints, I love the sound mine makes.

Are your air filters mounted behind the rear windows? My GTO-3 are mounted with the intercooler which quietens them down altho might move one forward

yes they are, I never looked at the 3rs filters. Thats probably right. Got to say though, I love the noise mine make, especially as I blast past a bus stop and look in the miror!

i moved the one which feeds the front turbo forwards so as to even up the lenght of induction hoses.

hear the turbo quite nicely now

Yeah, my upgrade included moving the air filters forward. Sounds better imo, but it might be annoying for some.

They reckoned with the air filters sitting near the intercooler the two just interfere with each other. Better cleaner air for both the filters and intercooler if they are positioned on the bulkhead near the air intakes on the top of the rear clam. If that is the case (and I can't prove it either way) then it makes me wonder why they moved the filters to the rear in the first place.

I'm having it done on the 400 this week by Noble London, as I've still got the brackets from when I had it done on my 3R ( The buyer wanted them moved back as he thought it was too much!)The BOV can spoil some of the symphony if fitted,( my preference would be forward filters and no BOV) but its a cheap fun mod and easily reversible.Never thought of having just one moved, any reason for this?

That might be true but moving them foreward is worse, from a performance point of view as all you are doing is placing them in some nice warm air, in the wind tunnel we saw that no air whatsoever enters through the vents behind the windows. All they do is let hot air out when the car is stationary.

They probably sound better though.

the reason of just one is to shorten the actual pipe length of the front turbo and leave the rear the same.

I'd trade (just a few) horsepower for the pheeew-pheeew-pheeew in stereo on lift off.....although this winter hopefully a few more horses going in.

Hmmm. Interesting though.

Do you mean the small meshed vents that sit on top of the clam above the engine or the oval shaped openings on the top of the rear clam nearer to the doors (difficult to describe them, sorry ).

Bugga, realised mine has an upgraded oil breather( apparentky a sensible mod) fitted exactly where the nearside filter was going to be repositioned, so no Darth Vader noises for me.

better to fully panel them in so once the clam is closed the air filters will suck the air in through the vent.

Hot air will kill performance... when I was in france the under clam heat was increadable.

did a quick move of the nearside filter today to see if i prefer the noise. well think i will make some brackets and move BOTH. sounds great.
