I have mentioned this on some other posts but I'm now looking for advice.
It looks like the smell of fuel is only when half a tank or more.
A M10 owner at work mentioned he had the problem and it was the pipe from the fillerto the tank. Does anyone else have any other suggestions.
The car is not with me at the mo so I will be looking at the filler pipe when I get it back, but it would be good to be armed with other things to check.

It does make sense, if your fuel tank is 50 - 100% full its going to increase the pressure on the pipe. Check there first after filling up at the petrol station. If you dont see a leak then how about checking the breather pipe for any cracks. You could over fill the tank a little and see if any fuel leaks out of the breather pipe. Failing that - would there be any chance of the fuel tank rusting? It looks like the smell of fuel is only when half a tank or more.

My car was leaking fuel, bearing in mind it has been just sitting in the garage for 6 months, it then just developed a leak in the braided hose between the tank and filter, there was zero visiable damage to the steel braiding. So was impossible to spot apart from a very slow leakage. If I had been drivivng it I am not sure I would have spotted it for a while as it was that small a leek....took 2 weeks to leak out the contents of the tank...about 10 litres.
So I would for the small cost just replace that hose and see if it sorts it.

Yeah, You mentioned this on another thread, will probably do this also.
However it only seems to smell when 1/2 a tank or more and those pipes you refer to are low down the tank are they not?
