"Alterations"...does that mean different cams? Out of interest, were valve springs changed?

Good luck with that then. It's well documented that standard M400's running less BHP than that have damaged the heads due to value spring problems.

Think I will trust the judgement of the boys at Noblemotor sport for now its their reputation at stake here, that engine will be replaced next year for either a 4.0l duratec or failing that defo a 3.7l duratec which is being sourced from the statesevil

Yup! my M400 had valve surge problems, but Trevor re-mapped the ecu to compensate, made the engine run better but peak boost was lowered and the engine didn't rev out at the top end as willingly as it would with the valve springs done and boost re-mapped to suit.

What sort of revs have the M400 been failing on the valve spring front

The issue is valve / spring surge the valve spring is too weak to control the valve effectively at high boost / revs.
This leads to valve seats getting burnt / damaged.
The fix is to fit stronger valve springs.
Some M400's had problems with the factory boost curve being too high thus compounding the problem.

Talk to Trevor Jasper (Yellowshed on here).

Was this just restricted to M400s with to higher boost curve or has it affected ones running normal boost curves, and was it compounded by the vehicle running to higher rev limit to attain an unsustainable BHP/Torque figure ?

My M400 left the factory making 371bhp (as did most of the others) It suffered from valve surge, I think the problem is limited to the M400 because of the higher lift cams.

Trouble was once it was apart we had to play with itsmile

Got a stage 3 (just to 410bhp/390lbs) with new intercooler, cam timing and remap from them. Got to say the difference was immense afterwards and they seemed very confident that the solution was robust (although I suppose they would wouldn't they hehe).

Can I also ask about the exhaust cost? Any chance of a sound file to have a listen? evil

Just checked with the boys who know and the M400 doesnt have higher lift cams its just timing is advanced, the prob with the M400 was the boost curve,as for the exhaust it a twin silencer design made from stainless steel, doesnt sound as resonant as the Roush it has a much deeper growl far less obtrusive in built up areas haven't done a noise test yet but will take some pics later and post them when I figure out how to upload onto this site any advice on that front would help.scratchchin Sorry cost somewhere around £1700.00:
