Trackday with no track sump, is it ok?

Hi all, i've finally got myself a GTO3 and i'm blown away by it's performance, and i really want to get it on a trackday soon as the weather dries up a bit. It's a completely standard car and has no track sump, so thought i'd ask for peoples opinions if it's ok to take it on track or not? Does the car corner so hard that it starves the engine of oil if you dont have a baffled sump, or is it something else? I'd appreciate any thoughts as to weather it's a good idea or not. Thanks!

i suggest you keep it toppped up and run an oil additive like slick 50 for extra safety

you could fit an accusump

If i were you, i'd get the sump fitted, i wouldn't take the risk of starving the engine of oil even for a moment.

What they said - yes it does! Only option is to have the subframe cut for aftermarket installation (apart from engine out of course!).

Thanks for the super speedy replies! So the main opinion is to get one fitted, and not an accusump? I'll call the factory tomorrow and see if i can get a sump from them, and best start counting my £££'s i guess....

Yeah ok, i get the point. Track sump is proven where as the accusump may be a nice idea, and a lot cheaper, but not worth risking the engine! So i'll find out if i can get one tomorrow as i want it sorted for the summer. Many thanks guys!

I had a TDS fitted to my car even though I wasn't planning to do any track days just yet. I'm told that the starvation takes only fractions of a second so I thought if it protects the engine I want one.

I think accusumps were considered way back when and wouldn't have worked with the noble due to the very low oil pressure at idle. IIRC this would have caused it to release the oil in that circumstance which isn't what you want. They sound like a pain anyway. Mr Cundy did the legwork on this one IIRC.

Indeed I did. Accusumps will work but only if you have the manual on / off valve arrangement. Turn it on on your out lap and off on your cooling down lap. Makes getting oil levels correct difficult because oil level will need to be set with the engine running.....

So, much easier is to get the track day sump fitted. You can do track days without them as long as you stay below 30 mph.

i had a gto3 with no track sump, only tracked it twice before fitting sump. glad now as moved onto an m400 with oil pressure gauge and pressure still drops to about 30psi on long left handers. wouldn't like to think how engine would have lasted in gto3 without sump
