Heater/blower motor(any one got a spare? whats it from?
Discussion
Hi all noblers my heater packed in recently so i had the heater box taken off and the heater unit inside is shot.I rang kerridges but at £650 a pop for a new one its taking the p***.I heard that the unit is a mk5 escort one so i bought one of e bay gave it to my local mechanic to be told that its two big and wont fit in the heater box(definitly bigger than the heater/blower unit thats off the car)although it almost looks identical.1)Do you guys either know a way around this.2)Does anyone have a spare heater/blower unit they want to sell.or do any of you guys know for sure what car the unit is off.Any helpfull advice wood be really appreciated cheers Chris
Yes Mk5 escort/van IIRC simple job remove two plastic lugs and drill a couple of holes jobs a carrot, the casing footprint is identical.
The escort resistor pack looks well upto the job and is already mounted on the centre of the fan housing, will need some wires moved/extended but worth the effort as it was the "resistor" pack (curly wires with no support) that melted into my fan in the first place.

I have spare working heater blower, box has bit of damage (thats why I originally changed it) but you can easily use the blower out of it, was removed when my m400 had done 3K. Matter of carefully drilling out the rivets and removing the top cover, after that its straight forward. PM me if you are interested.
P.S. removing the box off the bulkhead is a right pain, plenty of patience required as its very fiddly.

was it any better? or did it just get you back to where you started?
The escort blower is definately a better made unit, the key here is to use the escort resistor pack.If you are paranoid about it going again (and all the fiddling about removing the heater box) carefully cut the top section of the heater box away and replace with a stainless plate bent to shape and then fix with sillicone sealant.(IIRC Crazy horses did a similar thing).
That way you can remove the plate and then access and remove the fan from the top without all of the hassle.
Any sheet metal place could knock one up in about 10 minutes.
