morning nobility, have just been out in the M12, the car conked out and took about 30 secs of cranking to get it started again, then it conked out again but started fairly easily, then on the third time it chugged twice, stopped and that was the end of that, I can hear the fuel pump prime when turn the ignition on but absolutely nothing is happening.....help, any ideas?

Check electrics - alternator wiring can get rather fried and come adrift - worth checking he battery voltage or headlights intensity if you can't get near the battery.

The battery must be fine as it will churn the engine over and over, I get the feeling it may be fuel by the way it conked out

Straight back to basics here, pull a plug out and crank the engine over, keep the plug away from the plug hole though. If you have a spark that solves a chunk of electrical possibilities in one hit.
Make sure you do have fuel getting through, you should be able to smell neat petrol from the plug hole during/after cranking.

Check all intercooler and vac pipes are sound and connected correctly, after that it gets a bit more complicated, see if those things throw up anything suspicious.

Dont think I'm taking the piss, but I had those symptoms on my old Esprit. Chugg, Chugg, cough, splutter, stopped. No petrol !!

all suggestions are welcome but I filled it up last week and havent used it due to the wether and the guage still says full

But could still be a fuel-related issue if the supply you used was contaminated with water. Unfortunately, that can only be fixed by completely draining and re-filling the tank.

Try starting it with the fuel cap removed

Sounds like exactly the same symptoms I had.

Turns out the fuel filter was totally clogged up with a fine silt.
Flushed the tank through, cleaned the filter, re-assembled, added fresh fuel and she started without problem.

I certainly think it is some kind of fuel starvation, without going out to the car this late in the snow, is the fuel filter easlily accesible

Mr credit, did you feel any deteriation in performance before it gave up?, my car seems a bit hesitant sometimes

Had the car been left out in the rain ?

I had loads of problems with mine if it got a soaking. After it was rained on heavily it would hesitate very badly so that it became undrivable. My dealer fixed it and it's been fine since. It was water in the plug wells.

Fuel filter is located in front of the nearside rear wheel along with the fuel pump, behind the wheel well inner cover.

Can't say I saw a noticeable drop in performance, but then to be fair I hadn't driven the car much during the preceding weeks.

When it did start the last time, was it kicking out black smoke indicating it was running very rich at all before it died?

Hi Mike, I have only had the car for nearly 3 weeks, the car originally had the vacuum pipes connected incorrectly, skip down in Arkley took one look at it and put that right, I only took it to see him as it was hesitant when you went to put your foot down. It was better after that but never what I would say was ideal. Apart from that it has been fine, acceleration is stunning, fuel consumption is always around 23 / 24 mpg and have never seen anything unusual coming out the back end. it leaks like a sieve but thats another problem for another day, getting it going is the first priority. Thanks for your input

OK, internet diagnosis is at very best tricky (of course) run through the stuff suggested earlier and let us know the results, see if we can spot anything which might help?
