Hi Guys

I'm starting to wonder if the exhaust or manifold is blowing a little on my M12 GTO3R. It’s fine under power but when idling there’s a slightly blowing sound. When the engine is warm (or after some fast driving) idle becomes sounds becomes very deep and oscillates through the car a little – or is this normal?

I know it's a common issue for the manifold to fracture or split. What is the best way to resolve this properly? Does the Roush manifold do the job, and if so, what should I budget for this? I’m not necessarily looking for more power just to maintain reliability.

Many thanks in advance guys

James

Roush don't make manifolds.

A close inspection in situ should reveal most cracks, otherwise removal and even closer inspection.

I would hazard a guess that what you are hearing is due to loose bolts at the turbo to downpipe connection. Best solution is to remove gasket and use K-nuts.

It comes loose because of the chocolate bracket.

Get a Roush, no more swinging off the manifold smile

Surprised it didn't seal -flanges not even, maybe? Downpipe nuts can work loose even with the Roush exhaust. Not sure of the physics behind it, but apparently the gasket can act as a kind of lubricant under high temp and stress situations (eg on track) which allows the nuts to slacken off. I used silver plated K-nuts with no gasket and went from having to tighten the nuts after every track day with the OEM set-up to never having to touch them again.

Hmm, i see where your coming from, might just be the faces arent as flat as they once were, not too bothered about checking them every now and again anyhoo.
