Im going to be fitting a new starter motor this weekend to my M12 3R has anyone on here fitted one because all help, advice and tips gratefully recieved if it saves me getting bruised knuckles or blowing the car up via the petrol tank cheers
I managed to remove and refit mine without even having to get under the car. Admittedly it was somewhat fiddly!!!
As MrCredit says -can be done without removing the engine(!) but a bit on the fiddly side to say the least. Best way is to sit and watch a competent mechanic do the job. That's what I did.
Do make sure that the terminals at the back of the solenoid are clear of the fuel tank -for some reason there are a few SMs out there with a slightly elongated solenoid; they fit in, but are mighty close to the tank.
