Quick oil question

Is 10w 40 a safe alternative to the recommended 5w40 as top up.Might not need any as I haven't checked yet,but I've got a nice long drive tomorrow, (and a hoon in a 360,V8 Vant,GT3 etc),and want to make sure first before I check. I've got some 10w 40 in the garage and no-one local does 5w 40.Ta.

Yep, Its probably advisable to try and keep to the oil of the same machanical type, ie mineral, semi synthetic etc though most do readily mix but I'm not sure if the Ester based oils mix with say mineral, but most will be ok with Shell Helix or whatever.

Well,me and the neighbour did a superb 240 mile round trip in the M400 to Oxford yesterday for a "performance car day", driving an Elise, Subaru STi rally spec,360, GT3, and a Gallardo.The neighbour has never done anything like it before, and one car totally and utterly blew him away............
