The first question is it it normal for the ventalation system to blow warm even then its set in the cold position, (a/c switched off), or does it need adjusting-how hard??. The second question is when I`m driving the car car with the window down, I can smell petrol. I did see a thread along this line and an adaption was recommended for the tranmission tunnel or could there be a problem with the exhaust???. My car is an 04 3R, thanks Paul driving

My car only blows cold when the a/c is on and the switch is cranked right around fully into the blue. Nothing comes out if all is switched off that I,ve noticed.

No problem with the smell of petrol that I've noticed unless your manifolds could be leaking and then I did smell fumes.

Re the petrol smell......check the petrol tank breather pipe is sticking out of the bottom of your car and not gone inside the nearside pod.

Search on here for tunnel mod. Well worth doing as it stops the gear stick getting hot and the "engine smells" don't get drawn up the tunnel into the car.
But definitely worth checking the fuel pump link pipe and fuel filter for leakage.

The heater problem could be the water control valve bypassing; it is located under the car just inside the central tunnel IIRC. the other possibility is that you are expecting the heater to be the same as in your average Mondeo..It's not it doesn't have a mixing box and relies on fine "control" of the heater valve (pants) which is why all the "control" is on the first eighth of a turn of the heater knob.

I've noticed with windows down it still drags inside upon decellaration even with the tunnel mod. Teach me to close the windows I guess.

I,m pritty sure the breather pipe is in the right place Steve as earlier today when filling I must have over filled my tank silly (with Vpower yikes) closed the cap, but with the expansion I noticed fuel running out, just infront of the rear near-side wheel nono. I will check the fuel lines again. Sounds like I,m going to have to put up with the slight smell and warm air!!. As the boss of a fridge firm it will teach me not to be so tight and use the A/C loser. beer to all for advice Paul

This discussion might help re temp of air through vent system:
http://www.nobleforums.com/showthread.php?t=2595&a...

It is very common to have difficulty shutting the by-pass valve completely, and if it is open even the slightest amount warm/hot air will come through the vents with the fan on. That is an unfortunate side effect of a fitting a by-pass valve in the HVAC system rather than a proper blend door.
