Hi – I’m looking to fit oil pressure and temp. gauges to a 3R – just wondered if anyone can recommend any neat solutions. (Tried searching but nothing much posted in the last two years and the search engine is now down at time of posting).

I prefer the idea of analogue gauges rather than a digital display and fitting into the original panel which holds the water temp and boost gauges, so wondered whether anyone has any recommended solutions or experience of retro-fitting an M400 dual gauge to a 3R?

Thanks

Andrew

mine came from the factory fitted with those gauges

they fit in the centre console - you may be able to get a set from the factory / scrap yard

i fitted defi, used the defi link display and mounted it above the interior mirror.

looks very neat

fitted oil temp to spare boss on sump and pressure where the standard oil pressure switch was

water take off came from a custom hardpipe which i made to fit front right under the clam where there is a short hard pipe already

nice and neat

Hi Sean

I'd heard someone had done this - don't suppose you ever posted any pictures in a previous thread at all?

Cheers smile

Noble Motor Sport can fit one but I think just the Gauge is something like 160+

I have been researching this one for a while and have now found someone who will do the Gauge with the Noble logo white face and silver bezel for 114+vat

You also can get a dual gauge with white face but black bezel (I thought about spraying the bezel but not sure) also not sure this comes with the capillary.

http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p4125/THINK-DUAL...

Just need to tell them the required length of the capillary but I won't know that for a few weeks when I leave the car at the garage while on holiday so they can look while doing other bits.

PM me if you want the details.

I had the M400 dash panel and gauges fitted to mine but got the parts direct from the factory! Can't remember how much the parts cost but could dig out the bill if you want?

Hi Ross

Yes - have checked that out as a route so know the costs to buy the kit. Not sure I want to go that route due to the oil feed to the back of the gauge for the pressure reading (probably worrying needlessly there!).

Was it much of a job to do the retrofit?

Thanks

Have SPA gauges in mine. Moved the fuel gauge to the center console and have two dual gauges upfront.
Mine has the DG206 & DG201.
There programmable to alert you to any under/over temp/pressure etc.

Details here - http://www.spa-uk.co.uk/design/dualgauges/

I had the dual pressure/temp guage in mine but had a wiring short where some cable ran over the braided oil hose, a small fire resulted in the braided hose leaking oil into the cabin, all down the tunnel into the carpet. Very messy. I'm now going to go with electronic gauges instead. frown

To add some more information to help.

You can't get the dial dual gauge without running the oil to the gauge. The only way to have the electronic gauge is going with the SPA gauges.

I just fitted that gauge from merlin motorsport about 2 weeks ago. Works fine, just make sure you check the oil lines to the back of it are tight as mine wasnt! So involved getting upside down again in the footwell to take it out and tighten them!

I used Auto Meter Ultra-Lite electric gauges many years ago in an Escort Cosworth.

Nice and accurate, there's a huge range of others as well. Plenty of UK dealers stock them.

Me too - good supply of them usually on eBay in the US and being electic no issues of piping etc.

But they are not Dual Gauges, I couldn't find a Dual electrical dial gauge.

Got any pics, did you leave the bezel Black. Wouldn't mind seeing where you have fitted it. did it come with a long enough cappilary to attach the temp sensor to the engine?

Cheers

I fitted the SPA dual electronic gauge to mine, with oil pressure and temp (DG201). I went this route as I didn't like the idea of having hot oil behind the dash.

http://www.spa-uk.co.uk//design/productdetails/?ob...

The gauge comes complete with a ready made up loom with the temperature sensor and pressure transducer. Just need to order the unit for a Noble and SPA make up a longer loom that is long enough to run along the center tunnel.

The only tricky part was sorting out adapters for the temp sensor in the sump and connections to the oil gallery for the pressure, Merlin Motorsport helped me out with this. For the temperature I removed the blanking plug from the sump and sent it to the to match the thread. With the pressure I decided to keep the original low pressure switch and fit the sensor to a spare gallery plug for which I used an adapter and a short length of goodridge hose.
