Advice please.

Sorry chaps I know this may have been covered a hundred times but here goes!

I went to buy an Ultima GTR the other day and found I could not fit in it (6 foot 4). The next logigal choice is a Noble. The car is for track days and maybe the odd weekend run.

What are the differences between the M400 and a 3R? And do they all come with track day sumps?

Any advice would be very welcome.

M400 comes with TDS standard 3R does not. M400 has uprated internal and a more powerful engine, different suspension setup. You may find it a bit of a squeeze with a helmet - M400 owners may be able to enlighten you.

I'm 6'4" and had the same problem with an Ultima, even with the lowered floor.I've had a 3R and now an M400,and could fit in both.The 3R has a slightly offset driving position and is a bit more diffcult to get comfy, I eventually had the seat front raised for better under thigh support which helped, but it was never quite right position wise for me.The M400 has far better seats, a narrower trans tunnel for a bit more room and more room in the footwell which all helps, and hence for a spirited drive is a far better proposition for me. Also on both cars I had a steering wheel spacer fitted which brought the wheel much closer to me.A couple of things to look out for would be that invariably the seat runners have never been all the way back unless the driver was tall and tend to stick if not moved often, so give the seat a real shove back when you sit in it, you'll probably find a another few inches of play, and the further the steering wheel comes toward you, the more leg/knee room you end up with underneath due to its angle.One other thing,you may find one the odd very late 3R will have the M400 driving position improvements.Good luck, they are both great cars!

I had the similar problem. Did you try one with the lowered floor as I could get in that but not too sure about with a helmet. It was a cost option on earlier models but standard for later production. There is always the Can-Am

Anyway I decided to get the M400 instead and put a deposit last week and will be collecting next week. Much more room and not as basic inside.....they have stalks

There is clearly much more choice of engine that can be dropped in an Ultima but most SBC variants are fairly agricultural and need a lot of attention although lots of power and torque. For track work the preferred choice is an LS but these are much more expensive.

I personally think (as I would) that the M400 is a perfect substitute particularly if you are intending to track it like me.

Thanks for the info chaps.

Went today to Redline to look at their M400 and sit in it. Loads of room even for a freak like me! I was very impressed with the interior, with a steering wheel spacer the fit is just right.

I live in York (but work in Leeds) and have bought the blue one in the classified from North Lincs. Don't get my hands on it until later this week and then I need to get the noise measured as it has a Roush exhaust to see whether I will have any issues with certain limits. I am not far from Elvington so will no doubt get down there asap. I also like Donni and Croft but have a few friends who keep trying to get me across to the Ring and Spa so may indulge them this year.

Once I have anything booked or confirmed I will let you know.

cool, have got a day at oulton park booked sat 4th april with circuit-days, noise limit is 105db so you'd be fine with that. donni + croft can be a bit of a problem. i've always been ok at both but just got standard exhaust so doesn't sound as good as the roush
