Hi Guys

Wonder if you can help quickly.

My car seems to be developing a smell of petrol. Even when come into the gare after not using for a week there is still a quite strong smell of petrol outside the car. There are no obvious staines on the garage floor so it does not seem to be leaking as such.

Any advice is much appreciated.

From http://gto3.com/index.htm

After the car has been standing for a while the smell of petrol may be apparant, this is due to the o-ring sealing the filler cap to the petrol tank working loose and letting vapour out, the fix is simple.

At the bottom of the fuel cap there is an adjusting nut. You need to adjust (tighten clockwise about 1/2 turn) this so there is enough tension on the O-Ring to seal the cap. You will see that the O-Ring gets compressed. If correctly tensioned it should be fairly difficult to raise the tab to open the cap.

Don't adjust it the wrong way like I did. I loosened it, then put it back and could not get it out again. I had to undo the big rubber petrol filler neck to get it out.
