Whats that bit

Looking under the front clam just forward of the nearside wheel, there is a unit bolted to the frame, it has a knob on top which you can unscrew. Is this where the air con gas is filled or what else is it?

The bit you describe is the reciever/drier unit,the bit on top has a sight glass to see the refrigerant through.
The system is vacuumed and re-charged via two valves (near the airbox IIRC). the valves have a red and a blue anodised cap on them.
