wipers

Has anybody else had any trouble with the windscreen wipers?
The arm keeps popping off of the little sort of ball joint that it sits on, meaning they dont work. Is there an easy fix?

not a problem ive come across and not really heard any reports that its a recurring problem.no doubt someone on here will know what to do though

That's 'cause you're a relative newbie Arty!

Yes, there are many reports of wipers lifting, squeeking, etc. Some owners have removed one blade (illegal but works!), applied regular lashings of RainX, fitted backless blades, bent the wiper arms in more, etc, etc. There should be lots here via the seach function.

its not illegal to remove a blade and it works ok!! mine hit and smashed themselves up!!! gotta get new arms!! noble part only im afaid!!

So you are saying it is legal to reduce the manufacturer's swept area (in this case by 50%)? So, if 40ton lorry did this is OK too?

both my wipers have snapped off... first it was the drivers side and now its the passenger side.... I did drive my car through the winter and thus they had a lot of use.

Additionally the whole mechanism is held in place by self tepper which is terrible and work loose with use, this caused mine to wobble all over the place so I keep an eye on them now and tighten regularly so this isnt why they break.

One of the worst design parts of the car IMO, great to get you home if the cars a toy but no use for regular use if its an everyday car.

I only have the drive blade fitted and it covers over 80% of the screen and all of the drivers visible areas and thus its legal

If you removed the windscreen there is no legal requirement for wipers or washers at all - I'm not sure but I don't think there are MOT specific directives that state swept area for wipers. (SVA probably does)

I do know that if you do have a windscreen you must have a wash/wipe function, but note sure of area V's screen size.

back in the day we always used single wipers on the mk1 and mk2 golfs.you could buy a proper kit from germany or like most used to do was raid the scrappy for the mk1 scirocco single wiper units.a very long time now since ive seen a mk1 scirocco on the road let alone a scrapyard.
talking about scrapyards ,i can spend hours n hours in them just looking around thinking of bits i could use etc and collecting loads of sensors, fuses and wallets with the service books in.flogged quite alot on ebay recently making some funds for the nob

As long as it sweeps in the A zone of sceen (main driver veiw) yes it will pass an mot!! its not ilegal and to be fair i dont think it makes much diffarance when it rains!!!
