Looking for a quick and interesting car but not too much hassle when it comes to maintenance. OK, I can't imagine a Noble's ever going to be run for Vauxhall money but I don't want to get into the really silly bills territory either.
I'm not fully on top of how models and specifications have changed over time or how this may have affected reliability. I don't need ultimate bhp so long as the car's going to move along nicely! Any tips on what model or year could best fit what I'm looking for?

My only suggestion is buy the best you can afford. Low miles doesn't always mean in good condition, a used model may well have had a lot of fixes done. I would think if someone has had it a few years then it may well have been looked after.
Best thing is to make sure you find a car with LSD, Track Day Sump and if your lucky one that has had the exhaust upgraded (with fuel pump upgrade). Not many left now but the early 2.5's had a ECU issue.
But I wouldn't say they were cheap to run, but if you buy well (get warranty if you can) then you may well be ok for a while.

That's good to know. I'd certainly prefer to spend my hard-earned buying a decent example than getting it fixed afterwards. Also I don't mind a bit of cost so long as reliability is sensible.
sounds like a good condition M400 is the one for you then - thats if there are any for sale. Ozzie, if you're trying to avoid large maintenance bills, I'm not sure you want a Noble. There are some on here who have had great reliability and relatively hassle free ownership however there are also a lot that haven't.
Even if you get a well sorted one and the mechanicals don't let you down, the clutch is a wear and tear item and when that goes, it's an engine out job.
Don't get me wrong, they're a fantastic car and I have never considered parting with mine but they can be an expensive hobby.
