Getting a little worried about all this talk about chassis and subframe corrosion... where should I be looking for signs of this, how much is the repair work if it was taken to a specialist? I'm pretty handy with cars so would like to know any advanced preventative mesures I could take.

Does anyone have pictures of what to look for and where, is it the structual chassis that suffers of just subframes, etc? Also what should the underbody of the Noble be like, clean and shiney like the anodised chassis on a Lotus or dull and oxidsed?

All my chassis rails under the exhaust boxes were rusted through to holes. I replaced all 4 and the rearmost lower cross bar.

I thought I'd got a bit of corrosion under the silencer, i.e. the frame didn't exist anymore. Once the exhaust came off, the whole rear end was found to be badly wasted. I hope I've managed to put the link in.

One of the photos shows the new section of frame prior to it going in. There was in fact a much chunkier upright which supported the rear offside suspension that had to be replaced.

If you e-mail me, I'll send more photos.

Granted it's a 52 plate, but the quality of the materials / storage / construction (I'm not qualified to determine the cause) is on a par with the worst that the Soviet bloc managed to throw together.

Unfortunately / fortunately this car will accompany me into old age - it's so much 'kin fun / so 'kin fast / 'kin good at going round wiggly bits that I had no option but to get it sorted.

So now you know; either hope it'll go away or get it sorted if you intend to hold onto the car.

My car is number 16 and built dec 2001. The car recently (still going back together) had the tank, rear diffuser/floor and exhaust removed along with IC box and my chassis looks good. a little surface rust spots in a couple of places but not bad at all.

So I think this is a luck issue. I think at some point people mentioned that Noble left a few chassis out in the rain but I'm not sure.
