Hello All Can Somebody Please Advise
Discussion
Hello all,
Just thought i would pop on and introduce myself as im new to this forum and fairly new to the knowledge of the noble M12s.
I am after some information regarding the purchase of a Noble M12 which i am praying people will spend the time in which to reply.
For many months now i have been researching Nobles as a potential future buyer. I wont lie, this has been down to insurance issues. This however is no longer a problem now that 5 years NC has come around with no points.
I have heard that the pre 2003 models had some faults regarding the ECU, air conditioning and fan placement issues. Would somebody be able to help clarify this? and have these problems been ammended on the 2003 + models?
Im finding it hard to find the ground clearance measuremnet from the front clam to the floor and the length of the front clam to the start of the front wheel. This is fairly important as im trying to grasp whether a noble will surpass a speed bump to reachy my house. Can somebody please please help rest my mind with this issue.
I wont take much more of your time other then to ask about the track day sump. Does this need to be fitted if the plan for the car isn't the track? Does a standard noble m12 have any problems with oil starvation? or is this just an issue when planning to track it.
Thanks for those that have spent the time to read this post and i hope some kind people will have the time to reply regarding my issues.
Thanks again

Dave, I'll let others comment here more fully but my area is littered with speed humps and I can clear all of these safely and without contact. Some cars have their front spitter removed* (which, in effect, makes them higher), or you can just skim the lip (of the splitter) a few mm to make clearance easier (as I needed to do for my drive drop-down).
* personally I don't advocate removal of the splitter as I feel it offers some front clam protection from the odd contact incident and is cheaper and easier to repair/replace than the clam itself.
PS - an afterthought, the height can differ a little between cars (I suspect as they are "hand-built" by humans and not robots)

The only problem is that if you do hit something with the splitter it can rip off the bolts attaching it to the clam, damaging the clam in the process. As Rob says, all Nobles vary slightly so there's no categorical ride height, but removal of the splitter gives an extra 1cm clearance. If you're concerned, perhaps a friendly local Noble owner will offer to come round to see if their car can clear it. Personally the only thing that I think the splitter is useful for is attaching a bullet cam to.
thanks for your advice guys it means alot. The other problem is where is the closest noble dealer/service centre in the north east (Hull), asking for someone to pop over to check the clearance is hard because there are not many nobles around here in fact i have seen just one passing through Hull and never got the chance to see the car or meet the owner.
What are your thoughts to the track day sump guys??? is it necessary if the car isnt going to be tracked as i wont be beaten its head in for the wet sump to starve the engine on a public road
lol

i live just across the water in sunny grimsby and have just started using g&g msport in lincoln so not to far from you.i am at a charity car show next sunday june 7th so pop along and we can have a chat .i am hoping for a few other nobles to attend also. What are your thoughts to the track day sump guys??? is it necessary if the car isnt going to be tracked as i wont be beaten its head in for the wet sump to starve the engine on a public road
lolI had my GTO3 before the original sump was found to be not up to it for proper track work.
I will also add that Noble tested the standard car(GTO3) for over 40,000 miles without issue and that included a certain John Barker of Performance Car doing a days testing at Snetterton, again without issue(April2003 from memory). I personally, having just paid out £52000 for the car in May 2003 was extremly reluctant to fork out another £1500 to have their "up-graded" sump fitted just to be on the safe side. I had ago at the factory about it but they insisted that none of their advertising brochures ever stated that the car was meant for the track. I then decided not to track my car and have now covered 24000 non essential miles. Every one a pleasure.

Even though it came out of the box with racing harnesses and a rollcage! On a similar vein (well documented at the time) I, and others, were pissed off that just after delivery Noble reuced the list price of [our] motors without compensation.

Then out of the blue the M400 was released later that year and our cars lost a lot of their value.
art411y, where is the charity event being held?? grimsby huh.... so there is life of noble owners up north lol. thats good to know. Is that garage you talked about a proper noble service station? i take it they perform good work for you to be satisfied.
So guys im taking it that a track day sump is not essential for day to day driving.
The devil pointed out that the distance to the lowest point of the splitter was 140mm. What about the length from the centre of front tyre to the front of clam..?.. the reason i ask is the speed bumps around here are not the normal police speed bumps you see in the middle of the road... they rise fairly high and need to be sure if the splitter or in dead more importantly the clam will go over without trouble.

the car show is in cleethorpes and is usually well attended.i think you will find many of the nobility on here are pretty fed up with overpriced bad servicing from so called noble specialists.most of us use people we can trust instead of outrageous prices just to get a stamp in the little book.g&g is the one i would recommend and trustSo guys im taking it that a track day sump is not essential for day to day driving.
