Re lacquering carbon wing - any ideas?

Morning all.

My rear spoiler is looking a bit scabby. It looks like water has got between the carbon and the laquer causing milkiness (quite common I think).

Does anyone know if I could polish the old laquer off and re-laquer? Will the new lacquer bond to the carbon wing or do I need to "prime" the carbon before lacquering?

Some people have had this done and the paint shop that did them sad never again as its a nightmare of ta job.

Best thing is to get it painted.

I had mine relaquered about 18 months ago. I like the look. I used a company local to me who did a fantstic job albeit that they are the company Martin is on about above. They didn't quite know what they were taking on is all. My advice would be do not try to polish it out as it didn't work for me and it was a sislicon based polish that caused the guys doing the relaquering such a nightmare. I can always paas on their number if you wish.

Had this on mine recently. I gave it a good going over with t-cut and then waxed it and its fine now. Might be worth a try before a trip to the bodyshop

I thought the tried and tested way was to rub in WD40

Tried that before and it has worked to a certain extent, just didn't work the last time on mine

if you want to keep it carbon look the it will need to be stripped then jel coated.we have a couple of fibre glass companies around here that can do the job.i had to have mine jel coated even to paint the damn thing

I use 3 in 1 all the time but i would prefer not to bother and it be shiny all the time rather than a week or two.

So at some point I will get it done or painted over.

as above martin had to have mine gel coated.i wanted mine in the same colour as the car so thought a good high build primer base coat and primer job done.noooo chance!!all it did was sink and create millions of pin holes

I also use 3 in 1. You need to work it well in ( oo-er missus ), but it comes up a treat.
