Battery is on floor to the right of the engine bay behind driver, alternator is on back of engine to the left of the battery.

Bit worrying that you're asking the question, do you plan to work on it yourself?

Got the same problem. Mine is producing way over 14 volts, would also be interested in feed-back.

Sounds more like the voltage regulator than the alternator. Easy to change and much cheaper than an alternator....

I would suggest if the regulator is faulty the car would start blowing bulbs.

The battery light is generally voltage too low, not too high.

A bit of diming of the main lights when the air con kicks in at idle is normal.

Easiest thing is to of course check all the ground connections, as corrosion can lead to reduced contact returns for things like the lights etc. which will give dimming as you describe.

Could of course be your battery is on its way out. Only real way to test that is to take battery out and do a discharge test.

If you aren't sure then I'd get a compentant electrical mechanic to check out your battery/alternator/charging circuit otherwise you could replace a lot of expensive things with no change.
