Took my nob down to my local friendly Ferriari dealer who just so happened to have a Lamborghini murcielago. So thinking he would see my great taste in cars would let me have a sit in, (mate of mine also 6ft5” said “you’ve no chance of getting in” – one way to find out!!) considering this dealer had given us the keys to test-drive a f430 a few months back, didn’t see this as a problem. So I asked the said question, to which the dealer said, “you can’t I’m afraid it’s a customer’s car”. OK I said, “how does he expect to sell it if you can’t sit in the thing”?? (at this point he doesn’t know I’m on a bit of a blag) to which he replied- “people who buy these type of cars know them and don’t need to sit in them”!!! So I have concluded, the next time I need a pair of trousers I’m off to the most expensive outfitters I can find and ask the tailor for a pair of his most expensive trousers please. When he returns I shall take the trousers and thank him.(poss on sale or return!!) “Are you not going to try them on for size sir”???, the tailor might ask, “how much are they I will ask”?, “£129.000 sir”, “Oh", I will say, "that’s lots, in that case they must fit”!!! Great looking car though – anyone want to swap one for a 3R and a heavily pregnant wife, let me know!!! wink

But as you said you "were on a bit of a blag" you've admitted you had not the remotest intention of even considering buying one so I'd say the sales gadgy saw though you pretty well.

Ah, but a savvy salesperson will know you can never call a punter's buying intentions. I know someone who had absolutely no interest or intention in buying an expensive new "toy", went to Mole Valley "on a bit of a blag" then ended up with a factory fresh M12 - and I love it wink

Exactly, AMG, he was'nt to know I had no intention of buying that car. What he did'nt know is that I am interested in a Lambo in the near future, (if I can fit in one).My point, if you could manage to pick it out,(it was late), was for him to assume that due to the high cost of the car, there was no need to "try before buy". Number one tip for any car sales person selling high end, is to get them into the car, then talk about costs etc, as AMG found I'm sure. smile

Me too...was ready to buy an Evo and only wanted to be able to say I'd driven one...After 200 yards I knew I was having one.

Salesmen vary in massive amounts, my mate popped into a couple of Renault dealers to have a look at an R26R recently and they asked if he meant the DCI 175 renault sport megane unreal..

I hate tossers like you mention who seem to judge people which is the worst thing to do in sales and the other salesman which i had the pleasure of meeting recently who tried to use fear tactics to buy a car from him "oh you need specialist tools for this vehicle should the worst happen.blah blah blah" his face was a picture when my dad mentioned "yes mate i was service manager of a garage for about 8 years", fair to say the salesmans knowledge of engines ended promptly.
