Plastic cars and fire

As a former Esprit owner this brings home what can happen when a plastic car goes up in flames : ( on Lotus Esprit Forum, happened on Saturday afternoon )

The driver got out okay and he said the fire brigade were very quickly there but it was too late to do anything.

He'd only filled it up 20 miles ago before it went whoooshhh

Looks like the right rear tyre's there in a smouldering mound, the rest aren't though! I see the seats made it out alive too.

What were the fireboys doing. Unless it went up like a firework seems an awfull lot got burnt whilst they were laying out their hoses. Compare extent of fire from first to last pics, tender in attendance in all of them.

Agreed, but maybe it did him a favour as I would not want a half burnt car back repaired.

Same here..if i turned around and saw it start to take hold, i would be throwing anything flammable onto it! If you had an extinguisher and say only the engine was cooked, would you really want it back or insurance pay out to buy shiney new?!

write off value was reached as soon as the fire was visible. saving it was for spare parts. no one would glue a rear end onto the front, how many rear ends are available?
