While overtaking and changing into 5th gear last week my clutch pedal stuck to the floor briefly, then the pedal went heavy and i found it hard to get it in or out of gear unless i get the right revs, i am not getting any clutch slip and im able to get every gear, the pedal is now stuck to the floor again.

Called Nobley dealer and they think part of a plate may have broken off and the debris is jammed somewhere affecting the movement of the clutch.

Anyone had similar symptoms?

Im done with sending my car 200 miles every time i have a problem and plan on removing the clutch myself, any tips on how to make it easier for myself? whats the best way to get the gearbox out?

Cheers

Graham

Depends what route you go but engine out or bar removal.

If it is a hydraulic failure hope it is the master cylinder as slave cylinder being a wonderful piece of engineering design is inside the bell housing.

Ouch.
Which is why it's worth replacing everything (clutch plate, thrust bearing, slave cylinder) once the engine/gbox is out

it sounds like the clutch is dragging due to imcomplete disengagement

see if you have lost any clutch fluid - does topping it up remove the problem

To replace the cylinder is a gearbox out job frown

The fluid level is fine, the more i think about it the more i think its a fked slave or master cylinder, will only see once its apart i guess, I don't want to go cutting out bars so i guess its remove the lot rolleyes

Was planning on getting the turbo's refurbished anyway so may aswell do it at the same time.

try bleeding it like adrian said

I had an elise with a Hydraulic clutch also - there was dirt in the cylinder which caused it to stick every now and then, bleeding it sorted out the problem

does the clutch slip under full load ?

I gave the car beans all the way home from inverness to aberdeen just changing gear when the revs were right and didn't get clutch slip once.

I had a clutch failure similar to these symptoms last year.
Pedal felt fine but I just couldn't change gear, clutch didn't slip once either.
Turned out that a piece of the friction material had broken off the drive plate and was wedged between the plate and the pressure plate so no matter how much pedal I had it would never release the clutch.

Well i've nearly removed all the gubbins connected to the engine, just got the mounts and driveshafts to come out then ill be able to see what damage there is, wasn't hard at all and quite interesting removing all the parts, sadly i've been punted offshore so will continue next week and get some pictures taken. smile
