Emissions

Car failed it's MOT on emissions. Any ideas, the workshop had no ideas whatsoever and said i'd have to go to a noble specialist!! I'm thinking lambda sensor but would like any ideas.

get the garage to check the lambda sensors, if not get the lead and the software available on nob parts and do it yourself it's a 5 min job.

As above. Get yourself a copy of Noble dealer software (from nobleparts.co.uk) and a lead, and you can check the O2 sensors yourself.

I have the software, what does a good one look like? or a bad one? I have no idea of the values that they should be? How much does a sensor cost roughly? is it a standard ford part?

they both should have a pronounced square wave form I think from memory, a bad one will not oscillate from plus to minus and is easy to see if the other one is healthy.
They are ford items and are listed on nob parts.

mine scrapped its MoT few weeks ago at a noble specialist... they showed me a slight crack in the exhaust manifold and said it was probably this that caused it to be so marginal (im gona get it welded up.

However Im having a new exhaust fabricated for the car and so removed the downpipes and my cats look totally knackered so I suspect it was this in my case, just as well they are being replaced

mine would fail mot every time cos im running through pipes with no cats, i just put a very lean map in my ecu when they do the emission test. sorted.

There's one on each exhaust bank,so two in total.

Ha ha Graeme, very good spies you have. Car through it's mot now. Had a loose clamp on the exhaust underneath. Thanks for the offer of the lead by the way, I do have one but mine freezes up at times. So where do you work then? I'm imagining Dyce? Oceaneering perhaps?
