Has anyone had a problem with car cutting out when car gets hot, i drove about 100 miles after sitting in trafic the temp gauge went right over and off the scale, i see the gauge just before it did this, and it was reading ok, im sure car wasnt overheating, but engine cut dead and would not restart, but could smell fuel, i kept turning ignition on and off after a few min the gauge dropped to normal then the car then restarted,

has anyone had this problem, on 2.5 gto

Isn't the guage controlled by the ecu and programmed to go straight off the scale when it gets hot rather than slowly rise?.... I'm not sure but I also seem to recal that the ecu goes I to saftly mode when the car gets too hot. I'm sure someone will be along soon to correct me?

The temp gauge in my 2.5, (chassis no. 19), was driven by a separate sender unit on the N/S of the engine. I don't know at what build Noble changed to an ECU driven gauge.

i can only find one temp sensor, i unpluged it but the gauge still was reading, i have had alook for another sensor but im unable to locate it!! the one i found is in the t piece of pip between the heads!! the fans seem to be cutting in ok, i cheked head gasket hadnt blown, coolant is ok, i dont think it likely to be an air lock as id done over 100 miles on motorway befor it happend, so im running out of ideas!!!!

I think you'll find the sender unit near the radiator on the offside. The very early cars have the sender and fan sensor in the pipe inboard of the offside wheel. I had similar issues and had the fans and gauge re plumbed to link in with the ecu and have had no problms since ( other than the gauge reading a little low now)

The switch on the O/S near the rad. is the fan switch.

I'll post up a pic. of the early gauge sensor tomorrow.

I'm vague on this as it was so long ago, but I think the sensor by the OSF front wheel is for fans, and one on engine was for temp gauge in cabin/ecu. Something weird like that.

I know as my car was upgraded to 3L but still had the front sensor as a requirement. The chap selling unplugged it for me not realising this and I overheated i traffic the next day!

Early fan sensor is not in the rad. It's in the aluminium water pipe that's joined to the driver's side rad inlet. By the horn.

After the car geting hot again, i thought id start trying to find the cause, i removed thermostat as had a feeling that it was only opening a bit, but when put in boiling water it opened fine, so only other thing that i thought it may have been was the water pump, i removed it an when i removed the impella i was expecting to see the vains missing, only thing that i could see was bad corosion, so im still a little bit mythed, any other ideas? im gunna replace the water pump and state just in case

If you saw "bad corrosion" at one location it could be an indication that there is a blockage of the water channels in the radiator or other parts of the system. That might mean a thorough clean-out of the system is in order.

I think the bad corosion is due to the water sitting in the pump, it has a steel plate that sits in the pump, this it the part that has corroded, i thing the nobles will suffer with this in the pump due to the low milage they do, ill try and put up some pic so you can see what i mean, i have flushed out the cooling system as best that i can, doesnt seem to be any bockages!! it is a real strange one!!
