New "nearly" owner

Just thought I would introduce myself and say Hi. I finally gave into my desires and put a deposit down on a 3R. If all goes well I should be picking it up this week, can't wait

I'm planning to take a drive to Italy where I have family soon after getting it, should cause a bit of a stir amongst some of the Italian exotica!

Any advice for the trip? I've nearly made myself blind over the last few days looking at old posts etc. Trying to glean as much knowldge from owners posts as I can.

Seriously though, welcome. A lot of the guys on here are so full of knowledge that you'll always get answers to your problems.

Personally I'd carry a bottle of oil, bottle of coolant, small and large screwdrivers, a spanner, a selection of fuses and jump leads. I always do, not necessarily because I constantly need them but they have come in handy at times, especially when far from home. Nothing worse than being stuck somewhere when you know the problem but don't have anything handy to fix it.

I did UK<->Monaco a couple of years ago and all I had was a blown fuse from the aircon dripping on it (common problem).

And don't forget your two High viz vests warning triangle and first aid kit.
Now that's the cabin full. You may want to take a (very small) bag for change of underpants you can save on space here by turning them inside out and wearing them a second day

Thanks for the replies. The wife did look at the space behind the seats and ask where she was going to put all her shoes

Got all the neccassary european kit, only thing I'm stuck on is headlight adjustment. Are the stickers suitable what with the headlight covers? Where would you stick them?

easy to convert headlights mate, whip the plastic covers off the back of the light pods.

the headlight unit is fixed to the frame with 3 screws, two are slotted and one is a round hole.

remove the screws, turn the light unit by 15 degrees and refit screws, hey presto european spec headlights.

the above might sound complicated but when the back is off all will be perfectlt clear, easy job

i used a stanley knife blade and gently cut around the edge, then peeled the silicon off, to be honest wasnt too bad a job, took about an hour to to the hole job.

Well picked up the car today and all I can say is.

What a car!

My only problem with it is the heater. Is it normal to have to have the aircon on even when it's cool outside? Even on the cold setting the air comes out hot.

Thanks Sean, seems the search function is not working at the moment. Just wanted to make sure that problems haven't already started

Leaving in an hour for my road trip, so I'll have to decide if it's going to be stay cool with the aircon. Or leave it off and have a heavier wallet but be well broiled when I get there.

If you are only getting hot air the air con is faulty. May require re-gassing.

Aircon comes out cold when on, as soon as it goes off though the air comes out hot, no matter the weather outside. Apperently the aircon was regassed as part of the service before I bought.

Yeah, I would agree that this is not normal. Not getting much air is common but to blow hot is unusual. I notice on mine if it's been on the hot setting it takes some time to change to cold, but it does get there eventually.

It sounds like your regulator is not working correctly.They do get corroded up a bit. It's located in the tunnel near the front inspection plate and might just need freeing up and lubricating.

Hi, when you switch on the a/c does the amber light come in on the centre of the dial?

Another thing you may not be aware of and that is if you drive with the window open hot air is drawn into the car through the centre tunnel.

Thanks for all the replies. Think the aircon works fine (light comes on and gets cooler etc), just think there's some hot air leaking past. Even at the top of the Stelvio Pass, where there was still some snow, without the aircon on the air came through hot.

Spoke to the garage I bought it from and they were quite amicable, telling me to bring it back and they would fix the problem.
