I noticed today whilst I was cruising down the street in Brighton there was a buzzing noise coming from somewhere.

I've never noticed it before. However on the way home the noise disappeared...

I think I read something about it on the forum, but even though I have searched I obviously can't find the same phrase someone else has described it as ... However I remember reading that it is normal and something I should not be concerned about.

However I find it annoying. Is there anyway I can get rid of this noise??

I will have to pay more attention as to where the noise is coming from.

And yes the air-con was on. And I had been driving for about 1.5hrs.

The cabin gets so hot from the heat from the engine I need to almost have the aircon on all the time. Luckily my aircon is freezing!

I will probably look into wrapping all the bits with insulation.

I'll try and keep an ear out for the buzzing today.

As Paul says, if it's coming from behind the passenger seat, most probably the fuel pump and it's perfectly normal especially with the upgraded pump.
You should hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition on so if it's the same noise, Robert's your mother's brother.

Haven't heard it since...

But you are right it is a similar noise to when it turn on the power in the car before I hit the start button. There is a slight buzzing noise.

I must have an uprated fuel pump then.

when the pump gets really hot, like when standing in traffic or on a long hard hot run it makes more noise. you might only hear this occassionaly when it gets really hot

Fresh cool fuel will quiet it down. When the tank becomes empty, there is less fuel to dissipate the heat and it then gets quite noisy. A quick trip to the petrol station will temporarily cure it.
I have lagged the cavity behind the passenger where the pump lives to absorb as much noise as pos and added some cooling vents inside the wheel arch. Still makes a racket some times though.
