Rattle when car is started up

When I start the car up in the morning, for the first couple of mins idling and then moving I hear this rattling noise on the right hand side.

But once the car is warmed up I hear nothing even when trundling along at slow speeds.

What is that noise?

Could just be the lash adjusters.
Next time you change the engine oil use the Forte oil treatment first, it usually helps de sludge them and is recommended in the service schedule.

Is it a tinny rattle? If so your heatshield on the turbos could be coming loose, and as it heats up it expands enough to stop it rattling.

Yes it is a tinny rattle! I think it is the turbo heat shield .. I'll take a look and see if I can find it!

Yeah mine does a similar thing. Sent shivers down my spine first time because it sounded a little bit like an engine rattle, but then realised it was down just behind me. Think a bit of the undertray on mine is not quite perfectly seated, or as mentioned, heat shield is a little loose.

Although, do check your oil level isn't low just for peace of mind. This can happen like on mine when the turbos were seeping oil through the seals. Mine rattled in first gear for a couple of seconds last year, then didn't do it again. I checked the oil level when I got home and it was low, not below the minimum, but still low.

I think I'm right in saying that this issue has caused one or two engines to go in the past.
