Extra switch? (steering column not dash)

I have noticed a switch just behind the ignition, do all cars have it and if so what is it for?



No referance to it in the manual, ive had a quick search on here and find some cars have a similar switch next to the fog light switch that does nothing but none on the steering column!
I can get my hand to the back of it and it is wired so Id imagine it does do something, any suggestions?

Tried that and guess what...nothing happens

I was hoping that it may be an ejector seat for when the wife is telling me to slow down, but no such luck

I have my SmartNav button there, but its not a on/off switch like that...

Do you have a standard alarm fitted? If you have another one fitted it may have something to do with that, some clifords have a switch on the dash.

Yes standard Noble alarm fitted. That was my first thought but doesn't make any difference to arming or disarming the alarm

i think the vegantune switch was wired to the horn and the horn was moved to the switch ?

I have the same button fitted in the same place. I was told it was a garage opener aka radar blocker. It beeps when a radar device hits my car apparently. I never use it.

I assume if it is a radar jammer it will beep when approaching fixed speed cameras? Ill give it a go, thanks.
Out of interest if you have one fitted why do you not have it turned on all the time?

They're not illegal to own... just to use - which is why they are switch operated. When it beeps, you turn it off and drive by like miss daisy

If I didnt fit it to the car and I dont actually know what it is would it be illegal if I was to drive with it unknowingly switched on?

Anyway if BiB are reading I promise to only ever use it to open my garage doors

I think its a bit of a grey area... yes they are illegal to use for blocking radar guns etc (they can pick up the fact they're being blocked as well) but if you argued you'd left it on by accident after opening the garage...nah you'd still get done...

I suppose it's like emplying illegal immigrants and then showing ignorance when found out....
