Does the piece of plastic dash trim that houses the stereo come out - and if so how?. The piece below with the vent clearly does but what about the piece with the stereo and lighter socket?

I have a tyre pressure/temperature display to fit somewhere.

I'm going back 5 years since I fitted my stereo, but I thought it was just a few screws (4 ?) screws underneath (probably mis remembered)

I think it comes off with a few screws underneath, but again it was a few years since i installed my neon kit, have you pushed wires out of the way to have a look, i am getting some additional speakers fitted in the back in the next few days i will have a look then.

Yup, it does come out. It's three or four screws along the top edge of the piece, accessible from behind the dash, or through the radio opening, if you don't have the stereo mounting sleeve installed. Naturally, remove the panel under the stereo panel first.
