Whilst driving on the roads what should I wear? The seatbelt or 4 point harness?

How tight should the harness be? I guess if I am wearing a harness I cannot lean forward and therefore it might restrict me when I need to see when pulling out from a tight exit?

If I should only wear the seatbelt I might take out the harness and store them. It is annoying that they clunk against the back of the seat when I start and stop.

I find the harness a nightmare for road work around London. Far too many times when you need to stick your head over the dash to see the left hand joining road.

Road planners around here seem facinate with acute angles between junctions!

The harness is dangerous if its not fitted correctly every time you use it, if its not fully tightened then it will cause injury in an accident... for this reason I use the lap belt for everyday road use and have strapped the harness tightly behind the seat so they dont clatter about.

But for some putting on the harness and tightening it up etc is all part of the Noble experience... I had an Ultima before and that only had Harnesses so I didnt have a choice in that and it was certainly fun strapping in the ladies smile

I cannot stand the normal belt and wear the harness every time, the normal socket in the middle is set too far forward and therefore the belt doesnt sit snuggly on your stomach.
Also, the harness when tightened up just feels right. IMO

Neither installation as standard is very good. The 3 point belt - as noted - has the buckle/inner anchorage too far forward. (Basically the buckle stalk length is too long plus the buckle can`t pivot to line up with the lap belt run). With the 4 point belt you need to be very careful to tighten the lap strap first and then the shoulder straps afterwards. With both types of belt the lap section should be in contact with the `crests` of your pelvis. If it isn`t then there is a risk of an abdominal injury as the lap belt digs into the soft tissue above your pelvis.(You `submarine` under the lap belt).
It`s also worth checking that the the various belt `anchor plates` are aligned to take the loading from the various belt sections.

Said he was wearing the 4 point harness and the authorities at the scene thought that he'd not have been so lucky if just wearing the normal seatbelt. That's what has got me thinking about wearing the 4 point in future.

I certainly know that quite a few people wear the harness as a matter of course. Got to think I'll be joining them....

I recall one of the owners here commenting that you soon get used to just releasing the 4 point at junctions to lean forward if necessary, then re-fastening it.

Started wearing the harness, (teacheron intruction of the Wife) if I can get into the harness without adjusting, is it too slack, feels ok once in place. Once fastened I find the buckle sits just below my sternum, is this correct (I'm 6ft5"). Just a thought, idea this thread may just save one of our lifes, is that just melodramatic, or is it just way past my bed time!!!!....the joys of a 3 month daughter biggrin Stay safe!!!!

If that's a buckle on a lapstrap, it's far too high and would injure you in an impact. I suspect you've got the lapstrap far too loose and it's riding up when you tension the shoulder straps.

Check out the instructions under "Supersport 4x4 4x3" which I think is what is in my Noble and probably many others. It has the instructions on pg. 4 on how to adjust the harness properly.

Thanks for that, just printed off the instructions. Looks like my lap belt as mentioned was way too loose. Worth others checking if in doubt, could make all the difference!!!!!!

Cheers

here's an idea

wear the harness - then put the belt over the top

that way if you have to unclip it the belt will still be active

any suggestions ?
